High rise jean advice

Hi everyone,
I typically buy one pair of jeans a year, and this year want to get a high rise pair.
I have a long rise and torso, so this is a good look for me.
My question is : what style should I be looking for? I am sensitive about my bigger thighs.
Here's one I tried, target Australia Sophia style. Please excuse dress on top.

I unexpectedly have a free lunch break today so can look for more. If any Australians had suggestions I am all ears!

They seem ok, hard to tell w dress though. Are you looking for only skinnies, other types of legs, detailed hems (been seeing a lot of slit and tulip hems) etc. Is there a top at the shop similar to what you'd pair them with?

Unless you are looking exclusively for skinnies, try something like these sailor jeans; I got the dark wash at Boden and love them:

Any of the high rise flares or wide legs like those shown by Express should be wonderful on you—check out the paperbag waist, too!

Hi Suntiger I anticipated wearing a cropped top, or tucked so was hoping that despite the awkwardness of the dress I could have some feedback as to whether I should just back away fast from skinnies. I will however make sure to wear a top with anything I try on today (even though I'm actually wearing the same dress)

Thanks for the links Column, I'm not only looking at skinnes by any means! Not sure (from a quick search) how many Australian retailers are offering high rise wide legs and flares - maybe I'll have t go overseas.

I think for practically that if I went the wider leg route they'd need to be cropped, as our winter (which is when I wear jeans) is wet. I do love my black crepe wide crops - wondering if stiffer denim will work though.

I would try some “mom jeans”- high rise and a cut that is a bit curvy, loose around hips and somewhat tapered at hem. Probably a bit cropped, too. These work well for me- I also have a long rise and “sturdy” legs. I find that high rise wide crops tend to be cut too straight— too big at waist, too small at hips/thighs.

It is hard to tell from the photo - the fit looks pretty good especially in the waist area...

I would think about what you have and where the gap is

ie white jeans
classic blue skinnies
etc..

I like Jesse's ideas too.....

I am not sure if I will update my jeans this year or not..I currently have
- blue straight high waist
- white cropped high waist
- dark blue flared high waist
- black skinnies (almost jeggings style)

Not favoured but still own
- low rise straight (too low waist)
- blue skinnies (bag out very quickly now - five years old)

The first three pairs are all in great condition so I will just keep on wearing them I think.

Reporting back from my lunch break

I could only find one high rise wide leg
1) it isn't high enough - my rise is about 13 inches - this one just covered my hip bones
2) it looks kind of awkward around the leg break area - fabric too stiff maybe

The overwhelming majority of high rises were skinnies. Maybe a few straight leg

Jessikams - thanks, will look out for mom jeans (my daughter has some - will she object ? Interesting about your experience with our body type and not fitting the wide crops

In terms of what I have already

Dark wash high rise jeggings - almost worn out

In good condition

dark wash midrise split hem straights (from 2017)
relaxed skinny midrise white (from 2016)
2 x dark blue bootcuts, one for heels and one for flats (Maybe 9 years old?)

Am pretty sick of mid rise, but won't get rid of them yet.

I only wear jeans in winter, for maximum 5 times week (less if I wear something else, like leggings or a skirt) so don't really feel I need more than one new pair.

I find both Just Jeans and Jeans west good for jeans - good service. They are often my first point of call because I can try on a few styles at once.

I think a high rise straight or skinny will be a good call given your other collection. Levi’s wedgie was popular on the forum and that is one I will try on at some stage - Levi’s wear so well.

I didn't go to either of those shops (and was aware of their absence) because they no longer have shops in the city centre where I work. But they areee in my local mall so can check them out there.

I did look at a Levis area in a department store, but I don't think I saw the wedgie - will keep an eye out.

In the wide-leg pic you show, the waist is too big. The pants are sitting too low on your hips.

I`m not saying this is your dream pair; I am saying if you pull the waist up and take it in properly, the pants will fit as they are supposed to.

By all means, search around. There are so many great options available for our body type right now! (PS—so-called “Mom jeans” do not work for me. The bodycon fit from waist to thigh is not flattering—FYI).

Keep an eye out for the wedgie, yes, and take quite a few sizes into the dressing room!

I was a bit surprised to get some good jeans at Uniqlo recently. They have some good rises, and will take up hems for no cost, which is super rare in Oz!

anne--if you have access to Levi's they have a new style that is a 12inch rise...that's their highest rise.... i believe the wedgie is only a 10.5 inch

It’s not that you don’t suit skinnies but I think if you are looking for an update another style would be more current. And since you are only getting one pair take your time trying different styles and getting the right fit.
