High heel alterations

I got these at the NAS and want to make these shoes work. They fit in most respects except the heel is ha tad high and a little unstable. I know some of you have had good luck getting the heel height altered. I plan to take them to a cobbler. Any tips to steer me to success? Are there specific things I should ask for?

You can try but the outcome wouldn't be granted unfortunatley, as when the heels are cut shorter the toe can unexpectedly rise more than your weight will flatten them, and then can look weird-especially with a dressy shoe. I did this once with a slanted block heel on a pointed bootie and came out OK, but he didn't cut all the amount I wanted only half (for the reason I have said) and then it was not really enough for my comfort... Still wore them-but wanted even lower, Oh well..:-(

I wouldn't risk it. Sooo often I've paid for alterations and the results haven't been right, so the things end up getting donated. Better to return and wait til the right pair appears.

What lyn67 said. I’d be worried that cutting down the heel would change the profile of the shoe. The last was likely designed to accommodate that particular heel height and shortening the heel will make the sole sit strangely.

I’ve had this done twice - once with success. Both times the heel was much more substantial than what you show, and was lowered 1/2 or less. It’s an expensive adjustment (around $35-40). The 1 and 1/2 inch heel that was lowered worked. The 2 and 1/2 inch that was lowered did not. Would not do it again.

I have had this done. Not worth it. More unstable! Uneven feet. You feel like you are tipping backwards.

I vote pass on the shoes.

I've done this several times and every time I've ultimately given away the shoes. It isn't likely to work. The shoes you linked to are already rocking up at the toe and shortening the heel will only make it worse, putting them more off balance.

Runcarla, the Banks didn’t work for me, the heel was too loose. But Naturalzier looks promising, they have stylish shoes in wide widths which are rare to find.
