Hi all I have recently joined your forum (lovin it) and slowly working through all the different posts (learning a great deal) my name is Gaye, I live in the UK, 40yrs, 5'9" and I am fairly sure I'm an inverted triangle.

Whilst navaigating around the site, i noticed soo much colour you ladies wear, I have a question, my wardrobe is mostly of jeans, tops that are black, white and grey and all my shoes are black, how do I find the right colours to suit me? I think I am afraid of colour!!

Hi Gaye and welcome to the forum. I am on the other sideof the North Sea.
I went to a lady who advises on style and colour (and found YLF later in the process) and she pointed me to the colours that flatter me most. Some of these colours were my favourite already, others I would never have looked at before but some of them I love to wear now. How about trying on some colour in a shop and see how you feel about it? Or start with looking for some scarves as a pop of colour so you don't have start of with a brightly coloured sweater which might be scary if you are used to black, white and grey.
Maybe you can look at the pictures on YLF and see who looks similar to you (blonde or brown hair, skin colour etc.) and copy a colour from her?

Hi Gaye. I live in Washington, D.C. Welcome to YLF. It has truly changed my life. As you can see by my username, I first came here wearing mostly white and off-white. No color! I have slowly built up a wardrobe with lots of color! Now I love wearing color. One of the things that has really helped me is trying on color (whatever I am drawn to) and then posting pics for YLF. Often in pics I can tell what colors look better on me. And the wonderful ladies of YLF will chime in and help you sort things out. It's like having your best girlfriends in the dressing room with you telling you what looks best on you. And our number 1 rule, remember is to have fun with fashion! I look forward to your posts!

Welcome to the forum, Gaye! We have many UK members so I'm sure you'll feel right at home.

Introducing colour into your wardrobe can be tricky. Are there colours that you like more than others? We should start there. Once we know that, we'll get the shade of that colour right for your complexion.

Welcome, Gaye! I'm 5'9 and an Inverted T, too!

After I first joined YLF I felt that my wardrobe was dull and lacking color, too. But it sounds like you have a good base of basics and it will be fun to add a color to build new outfits around.

One of the first things I bought was a purple handbag in a buttery leather, then added some scarves that had the same purple tone and in was off and running.

Hi Gaye lovely to meet you.
I am in the UK and was astonished when I found this site and all the colours the YLFers wear. I told myself years ago that I could not wear red as I have a high coloured complexion, guess what...... yep I now wear red. Stick with us and just see how your ideas change

Just keep in mind that you don't *have* to wear a lot of color to look stylish. I don't like bright colors, and I have come to realize that this is a part of my style. Look at Taylor's outfit photos to see how neutrals can look chic.

Welcome! You are well on your way just by defining the colors you like best. What helped me, too, was to take pictures of myself wearing a variety of shades of the colors I liked. I was shocked to find I can wear citron and orange. Seeing your complexion light up next to the right colors also can give you the confidence to step out of your comfort zone and actually wear the colors out.

We all hear you, most of us have been there - there was something we were afraid of: color, pattern, silhouette. Little by little, with a lot of support from the wonderful forum members and even more fun, small steps can quickly become big style strides. Enjoy your style journey.
