Hewi winter office appropriate boots

I sadly purged a pair of 5+ year old Clarks boots. It was due to fit, they were 8.5 and I guess post two babies my foot has changed as they were just too tight last time I wore them.

Anyway I wish I could replicate them and seek the wisdom of ylf to know if anyone has seen something similar.

Mine were black leather on the bottom with a nifty nylon type of fabric at the top. I assume this is what snow boots are made of. They pulled on so there were no zippers to let moisture in. And the heel was flat, maybe some kind of nonslip plastic type material. With pants over them you'd never know they were for bad weather.

Basically I need a boot for when I'm up north and have to deal with winter weather conditions. When I'm there it's for work so ideally I wish they didn't look like gear.

I do have a pair of Frye boots from NAS last year that could perhaps fill the need but they're zipper back.

I find myself not finding what I had in the clarks and style wise I'm drawn to the look of the fryes I already have though admittedly they're rugged for the office.

I guess I'm facing the common challenge you ladies deal with - finding a refined yet weatherproof boot appropriate for a corporate office. I'm too lazy to carry and change - part of my issue, too, I know. I'm being difficult!

Thoughts? Ideas? Recommendations?

Would it be silly to give the black zip back fryes a go? I wore the same boot but in brown sans zip this last trip. I did find myself slipping and sliding on the sidewalk a bit and they seemed heavy. Ok maybe this is me trying to rationalize the gorgeous $500 boots I just found online!

Do the Fryes have leather soles? If so, they will be horrid if there is snow. You need a sole with a bit of grip. But probably not a $500 boot -- you may be able to find a short Clark's boot that can do the job. You really aren't going to be walking in deep snow, correct? This will be strictly urban? If so, a bootie like a chelsea could work -- and yes, ideally one that is waterproof, but you could also put waterproofing spray on a boot yourself. It isn't the same, but we are not talking true outdoor wear needs here, are we?

This time around I was in a downtown hotel and walked a few blocks after work for fun just after the snow hit. The office is suburban, I drive and walk from the parking lot into the office.

So my needs are not gear-like boots.

I am pretty sure I'm headed back to the same location 2-3+ more times between now and end of March. And I was sent to the same place for a different client last year. The luck!!

All that being said, basically, I need to be ready to pack it up and head North at any time and be office appropriate. I've done some capsule building in the last year and have the clothes pretty much covered for most seasons and client situations (continuum of dressiness). I guess it's just the winter shoe situation that may be the glaring hole now.

This last trip I wore the fryes to travel. Kind of a pain bc they're a bit heavy. But they slip off and on fairly easy and my feet were dry even walking in the slushy sidewalks. They just didn't go with my work clothes obviously.

To work this last trip I wore a pair of naturalizer boots via rack with almond toe and a 3in? heel (haven't measured). Pretty boots but had I done much more than the parking lot-office walk one day I fear they wouldn't have been the right choice. But maybe they're just fine and I should suck it up.

Another idea is to sell the black fryes and use that money for a pair of boots that is more work appropriate and winter friendly.

Oh and the sole of the fryes is not leather. I will check but I think it's rubber/plastic.

Oh, I know those boots - I tried them on - they are gorgeous. They feel too casual for a work setting to me, though. I mean for office type work.

How about boots like Shannon's Clark's? I can't make them a Find now but she has them in her finds, I think.
