Here they are...my plaid pants

Please don't spare my feelings, I can take it. How would you style these? Or would "styling" them mean "trash them now and repent their purchase forever"?

They look a little long in the photo (I don't really have the right pair of shoes to wear with them). And I can see one reason not to wear plaid just from the photo: every line in the pattern adds bumps and bulges that aren't really there.

I recently realized I just really like plaid, so I think they're great. My vote would be for a longer top--charcoal or black knit or fine sweater--topped with a cropped jacket. I'm thinking something with a zipper rather than buttons for a little edge. (I also would consider turning them into skinny/straight legs, but that's edging into very punk territory very quickly.)

I like the fabric a lot, but I'm not crazy about the cut. It's a little too close to pajamas. But I bet that styling them with some edge and structure will make a big difference. Maybe a long lean shirt with a wide belt?

I'm on the fence - the pattern is pretty bold, and you don't seem to love them. I would treat them basically like you would a microcheck pant as far as styling and see if that makes a difference. Let's see them with a light-color top or graphic tee, moto jacket and converse or similar.

You know, it's been an education to see how useful photos are. They sure help me in seeing how an outfit really looks (I imagine you all already know this, but it's a revelation for me!) These are slim, bootcut pants, but they sure don't read that way on camera, and I'm thinking they probably don't read that way IRL.
