Hemming released hem denim?

Apologies if this has been discussed. I looked, I really did, but could not find the trhead.
I am 5'4 and most crops are not crops on me. I love the released hem but how do you hem that to be 2 inches above the ankle?
I just bought these at the Bay - my nod to the denim trend. They come to my ankle but in the photo they are about 2-3 inches above her ankle.
Can they be worn long or should I return.

I'm sorry but just cannot figure out how to do a finds.

Glory, the beauty of the released hem is that you can chop them yourself! Angie, and lots of folks have done it themselves - with jeans that were intentionally frayed, but not short enough, or to convert regular jeans to crops.

Wow ok I hadn't considered chopping because there is some detail on the release part of the hem but I guess that doesn't really matter thanks!

It will be easier to hem them if the cut of the leg is straight at the area of the proposed seam (not flared or boot-cut at that point on the leg). If I were doing this, I'd follow these standard instructions for hemming to maintain the original hem and locate the seam just above the first release detail. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUhV6FAFsYI (Basically, it's just taking a pleat to the inside.)

Sorry to resurrect my own post but am wondering for those of you who have chopped off your jeans do you try and fray the denim? These ones have released the hem which king of gives a bit to the overall look.

I think there is a difference between a chopped and frayed hem and a released hem. If you like the look of the released hem--which I do--I'd follow the instructions Emily has provided. The trick with this method is to hide the seam in a release detail--something a good seamstress should be able to do quite nicely. The seam would only be visible to someone who was closely inspecting the hem. If the inverted pleat is too bulky, it could be cut and the edges stitched together.

Chopping and fraying is a different look. Most chopped and frayed hems have a hidden stitch line which prevents continuous fraying and reinforces the side seam. Picking out the threads and combing the threads gives you the the fringe--tedious but doable.

Just cropping and pulling out threads is quick and easy, but the fringe Is more casual because the lengths are often uneven and some parts will fray more than others.

Your choice, depending on what kind of look appeals to you.
