Help with shoe shopping please?

I need to replace my pair of black dress shoes. I wear these with skirts and dresses. I have two pairs of shoes from which to choose after browsing a number of stores in Toronto. Long tall Sally has really limited their selection. It’s a bit of a shoe desert for us size 12s! Which do you like?

I like them both but I think #2 is the most versatile, looks super flattering and would be my first choice.

I agree with Shevia. I’d go with #2 for all around versatility and prettiness, but #1 has a lot of zazz for occasions where that’s allowed, if you can keep both...

Sigh... Yes, you are both right! Sadly, I like the excitement of the first though they are not as practical. I would have loved a little patent leather or something to spice them up. I don't think I would keep both though. I really don't have a need for two and I think I would choose a different colour for a second pair. Well, at least they are comfortable! Thank you!

I don’t know what kinds of skirts and dresses or what occasions you’re talking about, but if you can get away with #1, even if that means hanging onto the old ones for occasional use when patent leather isn’t appropriate (funerals), then go for it!

My feet are size ten. I’m not in the shoe desert, but I’m in the savanna, and I’ve seen what dry times look like.

The heel on #1 is not high for skirts and dresses, and would work with pants/jeans if you like that look, the pointy toe is on point and somehow magically does not make your foot look too long, and you’d clearly feel happier putting them on in the mornings instead of resigning yourself to #2.

All things being equal, I like the look of 2 best, but go with the most comfortable one. Does black bookend your hair? If not, you may not need black shoes at all.

They are both nice on your feet. And for most occasions both would work. If you prefer 1 I would go with that. I slightly lean to 2 as I do like a pointy flat shoe.

I prefer 1, more to them. 2 are good shoes though too. Do 1 look good with skirts? I would be less concerned about wearing heels with skirts than I used to. They look good in the photo.

#1 is more interesting but the lower vamp in #2 is more traditionally flattering for skirts. Maybe they could be dressed up if needed with different shoe clips (clip on earrings-a dime a dozen at op shops)

My vote is #1 based on looks. However, my recommendation is for the most comfortable.

Where are you wearing these shoes: to work? For events? All day on your feet? Out to dinner?

I, too, like #1 better, but it's such a personal decision. It would be more important to me to have an interesting shoe. Other people would prefer a more flattering and versatile shoe. You get to decide!

I would be all over #1 like white on rice because they're super awesome
However, I vote you go with what's most comfortable

I like #1 but I’m a shoe girl and have a preference for fun shoes. It also depends on your shoe budget and tolerance for shoes that wear out quickly. Patent leather tends to show wear at the bend point on the toe box more quickly, using shoe trees when not wearing helps but I have found that the wear life of patent leather to be shorter.

Marija, I’m also a size 11/12 depending on style/brand. Have you tried Nordstrom’s And Zappos? They tend to be my go to sites. Still not as much selection as the smaller sizes, but might help. This summer Nordstrom’s actually had much more in the size 12 sandal selection than Zappos did.
