Help with fit: Boden's Ashbourne dress

Anyone by any chance tried Boden's Ashbourne Dress? I've been eyeing it all season and now it's at a great sale price, but with NO RETURNS .

In the past I've only ever ordered a size 2 in Boden, but they are out of it; and their fit predictor tells me I should order Petite 4 in this dress, but this size is also sold out. I'm wondering if the Regular 4 would work, but before taking the plunge thought I'd check and see if anyone has tried it on and knows if it runs small or TTS.

I read and re-read all reviews on their site, but as always reviews are all over the place (not surprising, because even at the same height and weight our bodies are all quite different).

You might want to call them and clarify the return policy. When I was reading the website yesterday I saw it written somewhere that you can still return clearance items within 7 days of receipt. Pretty dress.

You may also be able to get actual garment measurements from Boden if you call. That would give you a good idea of the difference between the two sizes.

Update, in case anyone is wondering about Boden's return policy for clearance items:

They explained that one can still return a clearance item, but will get store credit or an exchange, and not a refund. This was good enough for me (I'm sure I can find something else to like if the dress doesn't fit!). They have some amazing deals so if you're lucky to find the item you want, it's not completely risky if it doesn't fit!

Thanks to Scarlet for the suggestion (they had a big sign saying "no returns on clearance" and it didn't even occur to me to check on the fine print). And thanks to Gigi too--a Customer Rep sent me the piece measurements via online chat and helped me decide to take a chance on the dress...

And I ordered it in the "Post Red" color a propos of Angie's recent post!

(I've been looking for the perfect vibrant red dress for no less than TWENTY YEARS. Since about 97 or 98 that I searched, tried, and kept this HEWI in the back of my mind. I'm picky...)

Angie, unfortunately they were out of size 2, so I took a chance on the 4. I think it will have some extra fabric on the torso/bust/back--the question is, how much, and if it looks bad, could it be tailored?... I will be following up here once the dress arrives!

It's going to be too big in a size 4. Hopefully you can have it tailored, though. My fingers are crossed.

Angie, yes, I think you are right about the size. Once it gets here I will post photos and perhaps you and the wise forum members can help me decide if it's worth tailoring or not...

Serves me well for hesitating so long. Just last week they still had it in a 2, but I was on the fence... Next time I'll jump in!

K.M, usually, the small sizes run out first. And yes, I know what it's like to wait too long and the size is gone. We look a similar size. I wear a Boden 2, or am sized out because that's the smallest size. Sometimes I can have the item altered - like the dress below because the 2 is too big. Usually though, the Boden 2 fits well. Tailored, but not too tight.

Angie, I should have learned my lesson about small sizes running out by now (at 43 years old...). And your post about this from a little while ago was very enlightening, because it was something I had noticed but never realized was by design.

I was reading reviews for the Ashbourne shirt, which seems to be made of the same material as the dress, and most of them say it shrinks. I was wondering if that would be a viable strategy in case the dress is too big...! (Not sure if it would shrink evenly?).

I await my Boden package anxiously now! If the dress doesn't fit I already have several items lined up to exchange (hoping they also don't run out!).
