Help with cognac boots?

I fell in love with these Bionica Corset boots and bought them, without thinking about the fact that I have only cool colors in my closet and at 3" high, all my full length pants are at least 1.5" too short. But full length will cover the detail that makes me love them. They are my first pair of shoes in this color in decades. I don't want them to become orphans so I scoured my closet for the warmest colors I could find some are 10-20 years old) and was inspired by Angie's WHBM jeans post to dig out my straight leg jeans, which still show the lace detail.

Please let me know which of these combos work. These boots are so comfortable and the look is unique to me and really makes me happy so I would also love suggestions for other ways to style them for my mountain casual life.

I'm paranoid about looking stumpy (5'2" in a family of tall people) and have only just embraced slightly cropped styles. In general I try for conventionally flattering, so I often match shoe color to pants, but YFL is about trying new things.

These boots bookend the color of your hair perfectly! I think all of the combinations you have posted work. Because the boots bookend your hair color, they look intentional and your outfits are cohesive.

I will leave the pant length issue to others better versed in this area.

Congrats on finding comfortable boots that make your heart sing!

Oh, wow, I love those! They do bookend your hair perfectly. That was the first thing that caught my eye. I'm no expert at all, but these all look good to me. And I particularly love the cuffed look. It shows off the lacing detail perfectly. All of the tops look great; I think I like #4 the best, if I absolutely had to pick.

You have done a great job styling these. Like Ginger, I am a big fan of the cuffed jeans, because it really showcases the detail on the booties.

My favorite outfit here is no. 2, with the longer top. It makes me wonder about trying the boots and jeans with a tunic. That might work well.

I love the boots for you and think all the outfits except #2 work if you feel stumpy. That one could work with a semi tuck. As is,the long top seems to shorten your legs. The boots bookending your hair tend to move the eyes up and down to add height.

I think I prefer the cuffed jeans (as in #6) and the belt in #4--it seems like a closer color-echo to the shoes. Have you tried similar outfits with V-neck tops? V-necks are visually lengthening and can be combined with a cami or layering tee if they feel too open.

You don't look stumpy at all to me. I think #1 and #3 are particularly good because the scarf and the vertical stripes create vertical lines, which make you look taller. I like the visual interest of the ruffle on your top in #1, too. The boots themselves look great, too--they bookend your hair beautifully, and the stitching pattern on them is unique and interesting. You did a great job styling them!

Lovely boots. I like 4 and 5 and 6 best. 5 Especially. I think the proportions are good, so it doesn't look stumpy to my eye.

That was my exact first thought too - they bookend with your hair! My faves are 2 and 5. I can see people not feeling the sweatshirt vibe of 2, but the colours are harmonious and the oversize aspect makes *you* visually lean and thus long.

What interesting booties! Cognac goes with everything and I particularly like it combined with cool tones. I like your outfits, you look sporty and chic. You do not look stumpy at all, you are slender and well proportioned!

I think these boots work with all the outfits. I do like the way the fold shows them off better but like them long too. My favorite is #4, the green sweater and cool belt work well to my eye. I also like the ruffle top in #1.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and and insight. Every outfit gets at least one like (and I only posted the ones I could envision wearing!) so these boots will not be orphans! This effort of pulling things out of dark closet recesses, trying on and actually photographing and analyzing made me rediscover a few decades old pieces including the brown Coach bag which dates to my early 1990's corporate days! The belts in #4 and 5 are just as old.

greycat, Ginger, Joy, Kaelyn and rachylou - who knew I have cognac hair! I see the bookending and am so excited! I have been envious of all the YFLers with grey or dark hair because I love their bookending but couldn't figure it out. Duh! And Joy's explanation of why bookending works makes so much sense!

Gigi and Emily K - I will look for some tunics and V necks - maybe not as bulky as the fleece #2,

Jane - I remember really liking the dark camel blouse on you, We have similar coloring so I may be searching for more cognac/camel pieces. I have always avoided that shade because I thought it washed me out, but I think the deeper shade might work on me.

Sisi - Your comment and looking at these pictures makes me realize it cognac does go with cooler colors just fine, thanks!

Robin - I started trying them with my longest bootcut, thinking - wow I can gain 3 inches in height, just like that! but since they were all too short, I switched to cuffables, and I think that is where the boots shine. But I may keep an eye out for a floor sweeping bootcut since now, I can! Although finding a petite (for the correct knee break/calf width placement) with a ~33" inseam might be a challenge.

Try ONE turn-up on the jeans in the first few pics. But they look great the way you styled them too. I like the way the roll of the pants in #6 showcases the boots.

Thanks Angie! I'm so glad you think they are killer too! And I'm not going to be I n trouble - tags are off and I can't wait to wear them. And I'm looking for touches of cognac to add to these outfits (other than my hair).

Your Fab Full Length Jeans post actually inspired me to try the straight legs in the first place, when I gave up on my nonPPL bootcuts, but wasn't ready to give up the boots.

The boots bookend your hair, so they go with all of your outfits. I particularly like 1 and 4, and your Coach bag, too!

I think the boots are a fab match for your hair and the wedge sole is going to be so comfortable when you're trekking through snow and other inclement conditions! Outfits 1 and 4 speak to me the most as you seem the most relaxed and comfortable wearing those items. You have a great figure, would you be willing to do a pant with a more tapered leg with the boot and possibly cuff it once? You could even do jeggings with a longer tunic as the height from the boots will leave you looking long and lean - no fear of looking stumpy!

Super cool boots, and the color looks really nice on you. I like all of these outfits, Karen. I especially like the way you have semi-tucked tops in 4 and 5 to show the belt in a complementary color. And I like the jeans and pants rolled to show the boots. I wonder if you have any skinny jeans that would fit inside the top of the boot? If so, it might be worth a try to see how you like it. Also, I can see these boots with tights and a knee-length sweater dress.
I really love your peplum tee, and how you're pairing it with the scarf in the first outfit. I'd roll the jeans there, too, but that look is playful, casual, and pretty.
Perhaps you now could use a pair of tan corduroys in a shade that coordinates with the boots--maybe something to keep an eye out for!

All looks are fine with the boots. Best are 1, 3 and 5. I think the lines on the #4 sweater are problematic for avoiding stumpiness--they seem to point straight at the floor. And the top in #2 is a bit wide and long--I'm also short and I try to avoid that silhouette.

I second the tan corduroys suggesion!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions. I don't own any skinnies, but a pair in two size is on its way to me now and I will post pics for feedback if I find it remotely OK.

And I will begin the search for tan cords! Great idea!
