HELP: What would you call my style (PIC heavy)

I have a Nordstrom's personal shopper appointment next Wednesday and I would like to tell her my style. But....

I'm terrible at identifying my style, or styles in general. I need your collective wisdom to put a name (or couple of names) to my style.

I've attached some (ok.. a lot) WIW outfiits from the last few months..

All I've come up with are 2 words: Preppy and Boho. And I'm not even sure those are right.

It's so interesting to see all these pictures together. You really do have sort of a uniform going. I think you will have to decide whether you'd like to stay the course or perhaps go in a bit of a new direction. I'd call this one casual chic. You make me think I should take more outfit pics.

Not sure what to call your style but you might mention that you wear mostly plain pieces with a few stripes and polka dots thrown in. It doesn't look like you favor prints in general. Colors are mostly dark neutrals and cobalt and red.

My gyspy neighbor will kill me for using the term gyspy - but I'd call your style Gypsy Classic. Your style is very modern classic with "gypsy" finishing touches. I.e., I can see why you chose the words Boho and Preppy. I wouldn't go with those exact words, since well I'm a preppy from hippieland... and I'm not sure you really want to go that dippy. Does anyone? Hehe

I like Rachylou's moniker: Gypsy Classic, or perhaps Boho Classic. You seem to like some drape and color on top of a crisp, classic silhouette. This works well for your shape and probably for your lifestyle.

I'd encourage you to add some more woven tops to your mix --- perhaps drapey ones, not necessarily "shirts," and some more "soft jackets" in ponte knit or like the tan one with a modern boyfriend shape. You have some good knit tops in your mix already, I think! Also, what about a dress or two? Perhaps one in a grecian style like the tops in #3 and #19?

why not just email her your photos and discuss what you like and dislike about each outfit and where you want your style to go.

The first words that came to mind were casual sporty.

Rachylou; The wrd gypsy is considered an ethnic slur, so I'd avoid using it as a descriptor. I'd guess that your neighbour would prefer Roma or Romani.

I think Classic with a touch of Boho might be a valid descriptor. I think "preppy" is a little different - thinking polo shirts, button downs, classic blazers, etc.

The real question is what direction do you think you want your style to go in? Do you want a big change or just a tweak?

Elle---Classic does seem to be the theme... I'll definitely be using that term.

Mochi-- I like the Parisian aspect.. I doubt the people of Paris would agree though.

Liz--- I never would have thought about a uniform but I guess you're right. Looking at the pictures, I do use the same formula. I hate my arms so you will rarely see me without a topper of some sort.

Joy--- You're right, the only prints I own or stripes or dots. I don't like or gravitate toward prints. I like solid colors, and that's my entire wardrobe. Maybe I do need to branch out to prints, as long as I actually will wear them.

Rachylou--- I like that term, though probably wouldn't want to offend anyone if it's truly offensive as BJ1111 suggested.

BethAnn--- those are some good suggestions! I like dresses, but in reality I never wear them and have been avoiding them since they don't get much play in real life.

Gynnifyr--- I'm not sure about sporty.. I hear sporty and I think of track suits and work out gear...

Textile--- You're right, preppy probably doesn't work. I like where I am and am only looking for a little tweaking. Perhaps trying styles that I wouldn't normally try.

Ya, that is so Gennifyr. She wouldn't really kill me, of course. She'd laugh. Because nothing is ever simple. Half the time gypsy's a slur; half the time it's an overly romanticized term of affection. Well, more than half. Gypsy doesn't mean in the U.S. what it means in Eastern Europe. And we'd have to discuss if either Roma or Romani would even be appropriate. Plus not all vitzas accept all other vitzas and so on and so on.

Ya, we are denizens of the SF Bay Area, and we talk about racism like other people talk about the weather. Living in a diverse, population dense area is interesting. My neighbor is a Roma activist but not hify. She'll tell you when she's been "gypped." And she has my welcome to say "ching chong cholla wa" with me when we see a Honda Civic full of stuffed animals in the back window.

But not everyone can join in like that. She did go after the cop's wife who used the N word...

Nicole, I'm like the others in seeing very little preppy and a lot more modern classic, with boho romantic leanings. Can you print out your pictures and bring them in for her to see? They will give her a much better idea of what you feel comfortable in than any style descriptor ever will.

With that said, here's what I see:

You like dark bottoms.
You wear skirts, but not many of them.
You like slim cuts, especially on your bottoms.
You always like at least one slim piece in your outfit to anchor it.
You like bold, graphic patterns.
Even with your boho leanings, you are not into fussy small patterns. You'd rather get your boho feel from draping, ruching, lace and sheerness.
You like strong, saturated colors.
You are open to accessories, but they aren't key to your look, so you are more likely to get bang for your buck by investing in tops and bottoms.

I like what K said, and I also like the plan to show these outfits to the stylist -it will be a great introduction for her! And also, think about a Pinterest board of what you love - the direction you would like to go!! This will be so much fun!!

I see a clean, graphic style with an anchor of Modern Classic and a hint of Gamine (i.e. the parisian style of Ines de la Fressange and others). The colours you are wearing seem to be super flattering and you have your silhouette figured out. This is a very consistent through these WIW photos so I think you have your style just not a moniker unless you are looking to do a full style renewal?

How exciting to take it to the next level with the Nordies personal shopper. Look forward to seeing a full report.

Hope you don't mind me asking Nicole but are you happy with how you are dressing, does it feel like you? Do you feel fantastic in these looks you have posted or are you yearning for a change? I only ask because seeing a personal shopper may mean you are wanting something different. If that's the case then your current style may not be the place to start. If you are happy & just want to fill some gaps etc. then please ignore the following:)

Do you have a Pinterest board? I would start with some images of outfits or things you love & some clothing pieces or accessories that speak to you & see what words you would use to describe them. People often dismiss aspirational photos as unrealistic but I feel they are a way into our true selves.

Thanks everyone! I do feel like me with this current style. Believe me it's super far from where I started.. If only I had pictures of that to show you!!

I'm seeing the personal shopper as a double date with my friend who is looking to totally re invent her style. Personally I'm hoping the personal shopper will be able to one up what I have going or suggest other looks that will go with my style. Maybe even get me to try things out of my comfort zone.

Agree with others that there is a little hint of Parisian Chic in your style.

Just for the record, I think you look amazing in #15 and #21 - casual, yet sophisticated and very beautiful! Love your hair up like that - and if you're looking to hone in on your true style - I think these two photos are really where it's at.

I think there's a Euro Chic style in you (with a little bit of Paris/Ines de la Fressange thrown in there too) - just itching to come out and play.

I actually see a trend of femininity in your outfits. There's a lot of draping in your tops, you define your shape really well and many of the accessories have a trend of "bombshell" in them, with the peep toe shoes and jewellery (see #14 and #19 as examples). I don't mean bombshell as overtly sexy, I mean it as a descriptor for feminine. You should search Natalie's posts (her screen name is goldenpig) because she discusses the bombshell idea quite thoroughly and has great style as well. Have fun at the stylist - keep us posted!

1st thing you need to know, i'm an east coast girl. i've lived in the north, south and middle, but always on the east coast.....
but i thought california casual.
