Help!!! What to wear: Daughter's 1st Birthday

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting & Im hoping you can help me with my dilemma. My daughter's 1st birthday party is coming up & I have no idea what to wear. I have never been so stuck!

I just turned 25 & after having my daughter had a major body shape change, I had always been an inverted triangle & now I am an hourglass. I really have no idea how to dress my new shape or how to dress for my new role as "Mummy". I haven't really been out anywhere since my LO was born.

The party is in the day & being held in our indoor/outdoor entertaining area & although its winter here in Australia the weather is still very mild. There will be 30 guests made up of friends & family & the dress is smart casual.

Any assistance or suggestions you can offer me would be very much appreciated.

Hi and welcome, Nikki! Great to have another aussie on board!
Sounds to me like you need something fun yet practical, particularly if you'll be running around after little ones.
May I suggest a couple of the following:
1 a casual dress or tunic over leggings, paired with ballet flats or a low heel
2. Jeans (in a silhouette of your choice, though maybe boot cuts would boost your confidence more) paired with some sort of printed top? V-neck tops are usually great for us hourglass ladies. The same shoe options as above would work with this ensemble too. Throw in a necklace or scarf and you're done!

If you want more specific tips on dressing your body, it would help to post a picture of yourself on this forum so the experts can chime in. Also be sure to check out Angie's "mom on the go" formulas for autumn and winter. I'll bet you'll get a ton of fabulous ideas from them. If you can't track them down, let me know and I'll dig up some links.

My first thought was a fun day dress, shirt dress or tunic (with leggings if necessary), cute pumps or sandals, or, if it's not too hot, a fab pair of Summery boots even.
A denim pencil skirt with a lovely (patterned) blouse could also work.

To answer your question Angie; I do have a pair of jeans that I love, but I have worn them pretty much constantly since my daughter was born.

I have 2 new pieces that I bought a few months ago & haven't had a chance to wear yet & I would really like to use one of them for my LO's birthday:

& this wrap dress from Banana Republic http://tinypic.com/r/9glvtx/6 my main concern with this one is clashing terribly with my daughter's red polka dress & decorations. (it looks red in this pic but is actually shades of pink & burgundy).

Both new items are gorgeous! Wear those instead of jeans. No worries about clashing with your cherub's outfit. You'll complement each other beautifully. So much better than matching :0)
