Help styling an open black cardigan

I just bought a new open black cardigan and want to pair it with dark wash skinnies and either black or cognac flats. Here's my problem I am very cool toned and fair skinned and I don't know what color layering piece to do. I would also like to do a scarf to add visual interest. Any recs would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any suggestions, but I always have the same problem deciding what to wear with black toppers! Everything that's not a neutral seems too high contrast, so I end up wearing my gray cardigan all the time while the black one languishes in the drawer. Hopefully someone has some advice for you.

Black goes with everything. If you like low contrast, what about olive, charcoal, deep plum or mauve. If you like brights, try cobalt, raspberry or hot pink. If you are on Pinterest, search "black cardigan" and you will see many styling ideas. I love stripes, so I would probably pair it with a black/white striped top (which is like a neutral)--and then add a patterned scarf. Add cognac or black booties and you are good to go!

I love Kelly's suggestions. If you don't mind high contrast, you could also do white or pale pink (or pale blue as Angie posted today!)

I would say any shade of grey, plumb, tan or green that looks good on you in a soft tee/cami pullover type fabrication but Kellygirl has great suggestions that I must write down before I forget.
