Help styling a boho blouse

Hi all!
I have a Free People peasant boho blouse with an elastic band, similar to the one here, and I really don't know how to wear it. I thought to pair it with jeans would be a no-brainer (à la Birkin), but somehow it doesn't work because of the elastic waist band. It looks like there is too much fabric at the waist for petite me. I think it might also be due to the round neck, making it a horizontal piece more than a vertical one.
Is there any hope you think?
Do you own such a garment, and if so, what outfits do you wear it with?

I had a blouse like that a few years ago and never figured out a good way to wear it. It just bloused out too much. Could you wear it with the waist more around the hips?

With my blouses like that, I have the elastic sit down on my hips -- but I'm a pear, and that works to smooth out my hipline.

You could take the elastic out and wear it as a long, drapy top.

I used to have something like this, but with a small ruffle at the hem. I wore it with jeans and the hem worked well to lengthen my short waist. It was more horizontal than vertical and I passed it on mostly because of the open neckline like this one. I needed to fill it with something. Try yours with a long necklace or skinny scarf to add some vertical.

Ha, Robin, you've nailed it. I'm glad to see it's not just in my head. It's just blousing too much. Yet it's just the perfect fabric and print that you'd want a blouse to blouse, if you were ever to want that.

I am realizing maybe I never want that.

I think I have identified it.

The problem - what makes this top so boho-cool yet so difficult to style - is the round collar AND the elastic going around the waist. Round + round leaves bun in the middle.

Do you agree? Do you have this problem too?

Much better in pic 1 with the white jeans. Have you pulled the waist down in that one? If you have, will it stay there or ride up? It's cute.

Jenni, yes, in pic one I have. Luckily, it doesn't ride up too much, at least not right away. That's a good thing about FP, is that they generally use good quality material. I think pic 1 looks more current because the white jeans are skinny jeans (Marciano), whereas the blue ones are a classic cut for "curvy" bodies (Ralph Lauren).

I like these kinds of tops with pencil skirts or with summer shorts. Could also try over high rise bottoms (which would act similarly to a higher rise pencil).

It is a very cute top. I like it with the white jeans. I have a top like that from Mexx that poufs out in the middle.
