Help needed with party outfit.

Hi! I'm new and am enjoying this site.

Let's see, I'm 54 and am finally taking care of me. Losing weight, going to the gym, new hair, new make-up. A mid-life rebirth, I guess you would call it.

My first style test is going to be a Christmas party for my husband's job. The dress is mixed. Some people are more dressy and some wear work attire.

I fell in love with J. Crews antique gold jumpsuit. I feel like it an be dressed up or down. And, it an go in so many directions, boho, edgy street, to a casual day of shopping. Yes? Sorry that I can't post pics yet.

So, are jumpsuits going to become a staple, is my first question?

Second, I created a pin of the outfit I am considering for the party. Jumpsuit, turtleneck, leopard booties, and my 1980's moto jacket. Keep or remove the bow belt? And, overall does this work? Hair will be a silvery blonde very short pixie cut. Pin:

I ve actually seen this jumpsuit IRL and it’s a gorgeous colour and feel although I m glad that you are wearing something underneath as the top half felt very flimsy and wouldn’t cover anything other than a very modest bust.Have you tried it on or is this an internet purchase?Because you need to consider your underwear with this fabric as it’s very sheer and un forgiving but if you love it ,go for it.Jumpsuits don’t look like they are going any where anytime soon so You ll be able to wear it for a long time.l like your Pinterest board of the suggested final outfit ,that looks good.

It is an internet purchase. I haven't seen it in person.

My assumption was/is that since it is a viscose velvet and not cotton, I would have to wear some type of smoother underneath.

J Crew's "vintage gold" velvet has caught my eye this season too. If the jumpsuit silhouette doesn't work out for you, you could always try a different piece, like the midi skirt below. Your Pinterest ensemble looks great!

Welcome to YLF! Cute outfit- I can see that the bow might get in the way of the jacket, but I think you’d have to try it on to know for sure. Looking forward to seeing the outfit once you can post pictures.

Everyone, thank you. You've made me feel so much better. My daughter kept telling me the whole look would be too much. I think she means the jacket. I think the jacket completes the look. I kept thinking, "You've never really seen me. All you've ever seen is Mom."

I'm going order the jumpsuit. And, I will post pics when I wear the outfit.

It looks like a beautiful jump suit. I could not see your Pinterest outfit as the site asked for a log in, etc. ( I have stopped visiting it as it will not allow me to get out easily.). Your outfit sounds great. Try it and see how you feel.

Don’t listen to your daughter on this one. Congrats on taking care of yourself and celebrating you a bit. I have been on the hunt for a cocktail jumpsuit and am willing to overlook the bathroom impracticality because they are so fun! And this one is velvet! And gold! I hope it makes you feel fab when it arrives. I wonder if a sheer sleeved blouse might also look great.
