Help Needed: Which Size?

I saw this Target top advertised in a magazine and ordered the XS and S to audition for a spot in my wardrobe. I really like the print and the feel of the fabric, but I can't decide which fit is better. In the pics below, the XS is on the left. The black pants are what I was wearing today. I would like to wear it with the white trousers shown, but I have white cropped pants on my shopping list, too. I'm not sure about wearing it untucked with the white skirt, but I took the pics anyway. I see that I did not do the best job of straightening the top in all photos, but please weigh in on which is the better fit overall. Thanks for helping!

Oh and pardon the messy end of the day hair.

I don't see much difference in the front but I prefer the one on the right for back and side view.

The S looks very, very big to me - I vote for the XS.

I vote the XS/left.

My reasoning: it looks better proportionately with the skirt. You could go with the small for the pants, it would be very on trend, but the small doesn't quite work with the skirt. But the small would probably work just fine with a longer midi length skirt.

Meanwhile the XS looks just fine and on trend with the pants AND the skirt, so maximum versatility.

Una, I can't see or feel much difference. I don't think I've ever had such an insignificant difference between two sizes. I posted pics hoping you all would see something I don't.

The difference is most noticeable in the back, the trend lately is asymmetrical/longer in back, so either size is just fine. Personally however I think the longer length in back (the small) doesn't work as well with the skirt. Unless maybe you half tuck it in the front, then it might scooch up in the back a bit -- but with the pattern of that top I'm not sure you'd want to do that.

I prefer the XS on the left, the one on the right just looks too big. But then I'm not totally on board yet with the oversized, slouchy look. Or maybe the slouchiness is competing unfavorably for me with the pattern (which I like).

I prefer the XS. I do agree that there isn't much difference between the two. However, I think that the S just has too much excess fabric. The XS has enough fabric to drape well, so I don't know that the extra fabric in the S is really helpful.

shiny, I definitely see your point about the fit with the skirt. Whether I wear it with this particular skirt or not, I do want to be able to tuck it into a skirt for maximum versatility.

Ginkgo, I am not yet on board with oversized either. I am Team Tailored 100% but I love the oversized look on others.

I like the XS best. The S looks too big. I am not sure this is draping as nicely on you as it could but maybe it was just static. It does look nice with the white pants and white skirt.

I personally always prefer a top to skim rather than sit on my hips.
For that reason my choice would be the S here.

I think the sizes look very similar when looking at the front views but in the side view profile photo is where I see the biggest difference in the sizing. The XS definitely looks like a better fit and drape. Most especially when viewed from the side.

I agree with Rute -- these pictures made it so, so easy to compare! I vote for the XS too. It's still a fluid fit, but it looks like a better fit on your body, especially at the shoulder line. Love this top on you, by the way. Great find.

Yes, I also think the XS still looks fluid. How odd that there's almost no difference between them.

I prefer the XS too - because of the skirt. Fab diagonal sleeve blouse. You look fresh and on trend.

Jewell, can you let down the hems of your white pants?

Angie, I really want to let the hems down, but I'm afraid to do it. I know that sounds crazy! On the one hand it bugs me that the hems don't come down to where I know they should be, but on the other hand I'm afraid of ruining my stark white pants by sweeping the floor with my hems. I have them hanging in the TTTT (to take to tailor) section of my closet

Lyn D., I know what you mean about skimming the hips. That's my preference, too. I have a hard time achieving that fit, though because my hips are somewhat wide and my bust is really small. Almost anything that fits around the bust must sit on my hips. If I find a top roomy enough to skim the hips, then I'm swimming in extra fabric up top.
