Work Xmas party - ADDED Tadashi pics still undecided!!

I wasn't paying any attention to party planning at all. We have a work dinner/dance on Saturday and I need to figure out what to wear or whether to buy another dress.

I have this red jersey dress that I bought years ago but have never worn (yes, shame on me). It is comfortable and I think a bit more flattering in person than in pics. I put one black patent SW shoe and one nude heeled shoe for comparison.

I have two black tadashi dresses that would do as well. One is a surplice knit top with 3/4 sleeves and a taffeta skirt. It has a deep v neckline that is wide - not quite off the shoulder. The other has a stretch satin skirt and lace scoop neck top with cap sleeves and nude lining.

Questions:
1. Is the red dress okay?
2. If yes to red dress, which shoe?
3. What would you use for accessories and hose with the shoe option?
4. If no red dress, shop or wear a black one from the closet.

I am totally unsure of what to wear so could really use opinions.

Great dress, and I'd definitely go with the nude shoe. It completely disappears into the photo and gives you the longest line. I'd go with ultra sheer hose in a nude colour. I know to some that might read as too "daytime" but I'm not a fan of black hose/pumps with a red dress. A personal thing. Gold or crystal jewellery, a red or pink lip, and you are good to go. I've seen lots of photos with pink makeup and a red dress combo, and it's really sophisticated looking and less predictable than a red lip. I'd leave the neckline bare and do earrings and a bracelet or a big ring. Add an interesting clutch too

The red dress looks gorgeous, Dianthus - for Summer. Does it feel seasonally appropriate to you? I'd love to see the Tadashi options that probably look more Wintery, if you know what I mean.

If you have a party this Saturday I don't think that shopping is a good idea right now - shopping your closet is much better
This red dress is spectacular on you. If it does not feel too open for a season and you won't freeze in it (I know I would) then go for it - especially if you have never worn it yet. It would be definitely the right weight for dancing, you won't get too hot in it for sure.
I like both shoe options: nude gives you longer leg line but black grounds the outfit more IYKWIM. I think you cannot go wrong with any of them.
On the other hand you also cannot go wrong with Tadashi dresses (major dress envy here)...

This dress is absolutely stunning on you. WOWza!!! I love it with the nude shoe but the black is also a good option, esp. if you might wear a black topper. (Agree with Sveta that it is a bit more grounding.) I would freeze, but if you will not, then go for it!

As a fellow feels freezing all the time, my first thought was like Angie's - won't you be cold? You look stunning and I prefer the nude shoes.

As a woman who runs warm, I could totally wear this in Winter! I love the nude shoes. I could see a pashmina for a cover up (if it's chilly), and big earrings and bangle (or a statement necklace that sparkles, with simple earrings).

If you would not be too cold, the red dress looks gorgeous on you. For this occasion I like the black shoe best as more wintery and grounding as Suz and Sveta said...closer to your hair color. If it were summer I would prefer the nude shoe as a lighter look.

Thanks for all the helpful comments and suggestions. I am a bit torn now. The red dress and black shoes are very comfortable. The tadashi shoji dress is more dressy but for some reason I am reluctant to wear it. I might stop at one store on the way home and see what they have and then decide but I have two back-up plans so there is no pressure to get something.

Edit- I got so wrapped up in the pins I forgot to say you look sensational in that red dress!

I found a couple of pins that show a red dress with black shoes and accessories in various styles in you want to still consider that option. If it feels really comfortable on, that is a big part of it to me. I don't know what your other dresses look like, but if it's any consolation, I have a feeling that there will be plenty of other women with bared arms.

I wonder if some sort of sheer black topper/shawl might be added? Or a black moto jacket if you want to tough it up a little.

I really like the red dress with the nude shoe. However I think the black shoe looks a bit more winterey and a bit more festive. It also gives you options for having a black wrap, shawl, purse, etc and looking nicely bookended.

Any chance we can see the black dresses to weigh in on?

What a gorgeous dress on you! I, too, like the black shoe--it helps with the accessorizing options. The nude shoe does give a longer line, but it just looks "unfinished" to my eye.
Whatever you choose, you're going to look terrific. The dress is a wonderful cut and fit.

I would find a way to make use of what you have. It doesn't sound like you need to add to your special occasion wear, and nice to save the fashions Lola's for something that will get more use.

Could we see the other dresses? Otherwise, I woudl go with the red dress with the nude shoes and nude hose. Dress is gorgoeus on you!

I think the dress is VAva Voom ! and I congratulate you for not wearing black. I have beeen to two formal events this Christmas and it seems like a sea of black. I do think the black shoes look good and I like them as an "endpoint" for yourself.

Thanks for all of the feedback and suggestions. I stopped at a store on the way home and tried on about a dozen dresses. The best was a floor length jersey in layers with diagonal draping and an asymetrical neckline. I took a pic. I tried the next size up and preferred it but decided I didn't need another long dress so left it.

I took a pic of one of the tadashi dresses. I am really short waisted and find that there is about an inch too much fabric at the waist but it is a beautiful dress. I think I will take it after xmas and have it tailored to fit just right.

I am leaning towards wearing the red dress. It was interesting but most of the dresses I saw today were sleeveless and most weren't much heavier. When you live in a climate that is often -30 to -40, no weight of dress is enough to keep warm and our indoor spaces are often too warm and the sleeveless dress can be a benefit.

Wow, you look great in the black one, too -- but I really think the red one is amazing on you!

I think if the venue is warm (and I know what you are saying -- often places are overheated in our climate in winter, and it may indeed be warm) then you are golden.

texstyle, I was trying to think of a topper for the early part of the evening and like your idea of a moto. I have a black wool one with gold zipper detail and the lemming black leather one. Years ago, I wore a dark aqua dress with black tights and black suede pumps with a moto jacket for the ballet and really liked the look. Thanks for the pics and suggestions.

I agree that the red dress is seasonally appropriate for a Canadian Christmas party! Also, you look amazing in it and I still can't get over your alleged age that came up in another thread. You look 10 years younger. The black dress is glam and all but swamping you a bit and the length actually makes it less practical for possible snow/slush/salt conditions.
A fur stole would work with this dress perhaps?

I added pics of the Tadashi Shoji and Tadashi collection dresses. The lace top one looks a bit off because there is a bit too much fabric to the waist so it creates a bit of a poof. The skirt is stretch satin and although it looks snug, it actually isn't. The other one has the taffeta skirt and sleeves.

I was going to wear gold earrings and the bracelet but with the tadashi dresses, I might need a necklace.

I am still undecided. Tony really liked the red dress until I put on the black ones.
