Help me with my 5 style descriptors

I've been on YLF for an year now and am finally a veteran. Yay for that!

So, many of you have taken a look at my WIWs and written great comments. I'm quite the photog and have been consistently putting up photos of what I love & wear through this year.

I like to call my style 'Comfortably Dressy'; and while that works, I don't have 5 style descriptors/adjectives that best describe my style. Can you help me with that?

I could come up with these myself, perhaps. But I'd like to know what OTHERS think when they look at my style.

Disclaimer: it is entirely possible I am completely wrong. There, now, here's what *I think when I think of your style: casual, feminine, bojo, sporty... and I can't think of fifth one. I think your shorts-with-the-colored-top you wore a couple weeks ago is the one that I think most looks like "you." And your new hair is, what's the saying, on fleek?

Yay for Veteran status!

It's so hard, sometimes, to see yourself clearly, that I think getting style descriptors from others is invaluable. However, you should also take these with a grain of salt if they don't match what's in your head, because sometimes the descriptors you choose for yourself are more aspirational and indicative of where you want to be heading rather than where you are right now... even though I know you're in a happy style place at the moment!

Thanks Jenn. I do agree with you. This exercise is to know what others see when they look at me, because sometimes we see an outfit quite differently while putting it together, but that's not what's most obvious to others.

I like your descriptors a lot. I would probably write the exact same 5!

Fun thread! I see polished too Manny. Others that come to mind are playful, relaxed perhaps? Sporty, modern as well...I think that's five

I agree with Jenn No pressure from me. Don't give in to it. I've just never seen slip on tennis shoes and they way you dress go so well together.

I'm not terribly successful at the whole concept of assigning style descriptors - to myself or anyone else ....but one thought that comes to my mind when I think about your style and how you present yourself in photos is "quiet". Your look doesnt' include a ton of accessories or bold cuts or anything dramatic.....I see quiet, elegant, current and comfortable. That's only 4

I see you as quite sporty: I see lots of sneakers and shorts. Your physique is athletic as well. Your hair is also sportier now that it is curly, IMO.

But I also see classic and polished. You rarely do JFE. I mean, a lot of the time you will say something is JFE when it is really quite flattering.

You wear trendy items (slip ons and block heels come to mind) but they're always coupled with mostly-classic pieces.

So I guess I would say classic, sporty, casual, polished and trendy.

I think TorontoGirl hit on a great moniker for you.

And as for adjectives, I do see your style as having evolved quite a lot from your beginnings on YLF. (This is one of the most fun parts of the forum -- seeing evolutions like that.)

Anyway, at first your style looked polished, classic, dressy, feminine.

For now, I really like what Jen and Smittie said. I see classic, casual, polished, current, pretty.

I would add sporty, but I think that is part of the "current" descriptor. Your style is not trend-driven but trend-influenced. Right now the trend that resonates most with your lifestyle and needs is sporty luxe. But a year from now it might be something different and my guess is that to keep current, you would therefore move on from sporty to whatever the latest useful-to-you trend might be.

I was thinking along the same lines as Lisa and Suz. I like Lisa's list a lot! I don't know that you necessarily want to include "casual" in there, depends on what you want to use the adjectives for. Especially since you DO actually enjoy dressing up when you can!

I think we are getting there.

I think Classic, polished, pretty, current(or modern or fresh).

You love stripes and clear colours. You wear new trends and mix them in with your classic pieces. Like myself, you don't layer a lot (some of that is climate), also our hourglass shape suits cleaner lines I think. And I think we also tend to tailored fits, with some drape and the odd more fitted piece.

I think casual, sporty, pretty ... and I wonder if you are not just a bit rebellious as well given that a lot of young women in your part of the world seem to stick with longer hair and more covered up looks.

When I see you, Manny, I often find myself thinking: effortless, chic, and definitely pretty, especially with your wavy hair. I'm not sure if 'lively' can be considered a descriptor, but it's often my response to your looks. There's something distinctly fresh and vibrant about your style.

Congrats again on the 1-year mark -- it's such a fun milestone to celebrate, and you have Smittie to celebrate with. How nice to have a milestone twin!

Thanks everyone for indulging me! This REALLY helps, because I would've coined 5 different descriptors if not for your collective wisdom.

While casual & sporty are DEFINITELY a big part of my style (and the reason it has to evolve), I like the ideas of Aida, Suz, Lisa and Smittie. I wouldn't have necessarily added 'Current' to my list, but Suz's explanation makes a lot of sense. I'm not trend driven, but I AM definitely trend influenced. I mix trends with my other classic pieces and do like clean lines.

Sophisticated Ingenue intrigues me.....though isn't that an oxymoron?!

I'm going with: Casual, Classic, Polished, Pretty & Current

It is, Maneera, but that's what I thought of ... or maybe Elegant Ingenue ... something like that... because you do have this girlish, fresh, youthful quality, but you also look really put together, polished and grown-up ladylike at the same time.
