Help me style this sweater dress

So I bought this F21 sweater dress last year just before Thanksgiving because I had just moved to the Bay Area from India to realize that all the warm clothing I had bought with me could not stand muster to the Bay Area winters Looks like I really did not give it much thought when I picked it because who in their right mind would buy a SHORT SLEEVED sweater dress to fight the cold? I have had to wear it with long sleeved black thermal tops everytime and a topper when the temperatures go down further. I have always worn hose or tights with it to keep my legs covered and warm. Today I could get away with just a denim jacket because the temperature inside our office is controlled. Do you think I can style this dress differently? Notice the cowl-ish neck which eliminates scarf and necklace options. Any suggestions in terms of toppers/layers/bottoms?

Oh yes, I have also worn brown booties and black hose with this outfit during our November vacation last year in San Diego (yes - I do run cold!!!) I have a pair of calf lenght black boots. Do you think that would work?

I hear you - I have 2 sweater dresses from Talbots that I LOVE - but they are short sleeved. They are close fitting enough to put a cardigan over, however. Yours looks like the full sleeves will make it challenging to layer on top. How about layering a long sleeved tee or thin sweater under it? I also wear almost to the knee boots with mine, but my dresses are knee length. I'd have to see a photo of the calf length boots with the dress but that might work.

what I really want to know is why manufacturers are selling you a body heating, arm chilling sweater/dress in the first place....not your fault...cute styling. Have you tied a cotton long arm shirt under in your favorite color?

For the top, have you tried a long sleeved tee (white, black, grey) underneath? I can't help you on the bottom...it looks like it would be really cold in the winter!

Here's another vote for a long-sleeved T under that sweater dress, perhaps in a deep chocolate brown. Have you tried skinny jeans, cigarette pants, or very heavy leggings (maybe ponte knit) with it? I think boots could work well in theory, but the devil is in the details, so it would depend on the boots. You could also wear tights under skinny pants, for an extra layer of insulation.

I never buy heavy, short-sleeved items for precisely that reason. What's with cooking part of the body, and chilling another? I don't get it. Still, it does look cute, and if you can find a way to make it wearable, it could be a lot of fun. Good luck!
