Help me style these pointy toed shooties

On Tuesday I drove a full draft of the Dis down to my advisor! As a reward, I bought myself these Born "anthracite" shooties. The color is supposed to be grey, but they look more brownish/taupish to me. The pointy toe is a stretch for me, so please help me figure out how to wear these.

1) The shooties. They seem much more dramatically pointy IRL than these photos!

2) My first try, from yesterday, which is pretty blah all round - I'm thinking the pants should be shorter or longer, and the top either more oversized or more fitted.

3) Today I paired the same olive trousers with a slightly more fitted navy T, and like the general silhouette better. I also tried with the pants rolled all the way down and then rolled a bit higher. Not sure which I prefer.

What do you think? Can you give me some pointers for styling these shooties? I envisioned wearing them mostly with either these olive trousers or boyfriend jeans, and like the idea of showing some ankle with them, but need help to get the proportions and general look right.

Congratulations on the dissertation!! That definitely calls for new footwear!

(Our finance ministers in Canada have a tradition of buying new shoes before releasing a new budget. I think this qualifies as AT LEAST as important!)

I think these are great for your style and should get lots of wear. I prefer them with the pants rolled a bit. I agree that today's outfit showcases them a bit better.

How about trying them with the BFs and some different tops so you can see? I know it's a pain, but trying on is usually the only way to know for sure if it will work.

I like the way you've styled them here both with the jeans rolled down and with the ankle showing. I have a pair of grey/taupe shoes that look taupe against grey but grey against brown. Very frustrating.

I like them! I don't think they look super pointy, but they must be pointier than what you've been wearing. After some initial wear, they will probably start to look more "normal" to you. I am no help with styling shooties, but they look great here. As for your dissertation, congratulations!

I like how you styled them with the rolled pants. I think some of your skirt/dress outfits might work with these too!

It might be fun to see these with some drapey pants and a column of color with a topper but I think you said your wardrobe had gone missing, so I don't know if you have many options to play with right now.

MuseumGal - congrats on the dissertation!! Nice booties. I also would love to see them with boot cuts. They are a heavier bootie and pants with visual weight might balance them out. To my eye, I'd love to see them with long skinnies with scrunch, straight legs with long inseam, long elegant bootcuts. I think they look nice with the outfits you've shown esp pic #2.

Ha Suz, my Dis is at least as important as a national budget! I will definiltey try them with BFs as you suggest.

Ceit suggested skirts and dresses, which is not something I would have considered, but will give it a try. Several people (kkards, coumbne, gryffin) suggested wider leg pants, and bootcuts, which I will also try. I also like the suggestions of drapey pants and long scrunched skinnies. These may be more versatile than I'd originaly thought, which would be a Good Thing.
