Help me shop for linens, towels, etc

Hi YLF! I was hoping you could help me find some home goods - if you have time and don't mind to help!!!!

I'm a little out of practice shopping and have forgotten all of the sources available to me in the US.

We moved a few months ago and now I am **finally** to the point of doing some fun decorating but alas, I am a bit overwhelmed and could use some YLF help.

I am looking for the following:
- master bedroom bedding. Clean lines, modern. I prefer a thin quilt and refuse to use duvet covers. I add a quilt when it gets cooler, otherwise year round a bedspread/quilt is enough (and preferred over a thicker comforter).

bedspread/quilt
sheets
dust ruffle not necessary (modern look and also my box springs is "decorative" chocolate brown so not offensive and hardly seen)

- master bath towels and most importantly bath mats (the kind like in a hotel that doesn't stay on the floor all the time). It would be nice if the colors at least semi coordinated with the bedding, but it's not absolute.

bath towels (NOT beach towel humongous size)
hand towels
washcloths
bath mats (made of towel like material w/o rubber back)

I'm open to neutral as well as bright colors.

As I don't live in the US and my visits are sparse, I can't leave it up to chance, aka TJMaxx and the like.

I'm looking for quality as well and don't mind paying more for it. I just realized the last towels I bought are now 5 years old and came from Costco. Quality is more important to me at this point.

If you have recently done any research that may help me out or just need a time killing task to keep you from getting to your REAL work (haha), I would appreciate it greatly!!

Macy's is a pretty traditional place for linen and towels.

I like Hotel Collection from Macys for towels and linens. The colors are limited though - mostly pale neutrals. If you happen to be in the states around July 4th, I think they always have a big sale then.

Can't help with bedspreads and such since I'm a die-hard fan of duvets.

After many many attempts, my recent choices for bath towels have been the Better Homes and Gardens line (not any others) at Walmart. I've been buying the bath sheets for a number of years and they launder wonderfully and last really well. They come in a variety of current colors, and come in bath sheet; plus regular size bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths. As for the bedding...I'm having difficulty finding bedding I like so I will be following this thread for ideas!

... back to say my own towels are YOSHII. They aren't big and puffy... so sort of the province of Architects and Dwell magazine readers. West Elm carried them for awhile - the beach towels size, which is more like the normal western bath towel size.

Restoration Hardware has lovely, thick, fluffy towels of all sizes and coordinating bath mats. They also have bed linens. High quality and long lasting, pricey but they do run sales.

Garnet Hill is one of my favorites for bedding. Their box springs covers are the best and I love their flat flannel sheets at bed covers. I let the dogs on the bed with me in the mornings so I rotate the cover every two to three days. They wash beautifully.

We have sheets from Macys and towels from Costco and the Fieldcrest brand at Target and they have been going strong for 7 years and up. They come in mostly solids though.

I agree with Deb about Garnet Hill. I've always had decent luck with linens at both Target and Bed Bath & Beyond, too - just make sure that you don't buy the cheapest option.

I got some at Kohls. 100% cotton on the Vera Wang line.

I am thinking of trying LLBean next for towels. I have heard good things about them. My sheets are from Lands End or LLBean.

Have to agree with greycat. My Turkish Restoration Hardware towels are going on seven years. I even bleach them so often. Only now are the edges are getting a smidge worn. The loops are still good.

I also recommend Restoration Hardware for towels. They'll have the bath mat you want too. My sheets aren't from them but our blanket is. I can't stand a duvet or heavy comforter. The cotton blanket is the perfect weight.

My towels (and bath mat just as you describe) are Macy's Hotel Collection and I love them. Beware, though -- they are not colorfast and one drop of anything containing bleach or similar will ruin them. That's why I stick to white.

I got a lovely thin quilt from Pottery Barn recently. Not cheap but I love it.

Just looked at http://www.potterybarn.com and they are having a sale on linens right now, plus 10% off with email sign-up.

my favorite towels are from nordstroms….if you are willing to wait another month or so, i know that for the past 2 years they have been part of the NAS sale. i like the bath sheet size, but they also have "regular" sized bath towels. i also like the macy hotel collection that MsMary likes.
for bed sheets, if found that target has great sheets at good prices…I've been using these field crest for a couple of year…they have a really deep pocket, so work well on extra thick mattresses.

Oh, I just thought of another one - when we moved to our new place my MIL bought us a set of sheets as a housewarming gift - they were from QVC, the Northern Nights line. They're some of my favorite sheets ever, great hand, easy washing, deep enough pockets in the fitted sheet, and they still look like new. I've never been a big QVC shopper but I may make an exception in the future for their linens, as they seem really nice.

I recently treated myself to a set of pottery barn Belgian linen sheets and they are to die for. Every night when I slip into bed it is like the coziest hug. I'm not sure I'll ever go back to cotton sheets. I'm considering making these my standard wedding gift.

On towels I'm weird. Super fluffy expensive towels don't dry my skin so they leave me feeling damp and yuck. I stick with mid level target towels for this reason.

I like flannel sheets so I buy the thickest ones from Lands End. The ones I tried from Costco were terrible. I got a flannel duvet cover from The Company Store, and the flannel is very nice and I assume is the same as their sheets so I would buy there if I wanted an interesting pattern and were willing to pay more than Lands End prices.
