Help me find a dress?

This might be Impossible without my picture...you can tell me if that is true!

My niece is getting married. In August. Outdoors. In the South. Are they crazy??

I want a new dress, although I don't really need one. I have a few that would do, that no one in the family has seen. So new would just be to make me happy, not for any other reason. But...there are big issues.

1) August. Outdoors. In the South. I'm thinking natural fabric, loose and flowy.
2) but I'm 53 and I don't want to look like a hippie on a beach vacation.
3) the wedding is going to be pretty casual and I don't want to be overdressed, but...see #2.
4) this is not a fashion crowd, so something that might jump to mind such as a maxi dress wouldn't be recognized as trendy, it would just read as #2 above!

Any suggestions?

what about a sundress? something in maybe uneven hem length, soft color-can't do photos yet as i'm new here.

Okay, how about these:

100% linen, available in a soft pink - long enough to be okay, 100% linen, and not beach wear I have been eyeing it, but i have no place to wear it.

97% Cotton - so not all natural fibers. I am wearing this today and LOVE it. Great fabric, long enough for the office, and it has pockets. Makes me feel twirly in a good way. I have the black and white one, but I think the turquioise and white one would be better for a wedding.

Oh, and everything at Talbots is currently 30% off. (Which means it is at its regular price, IMHO).

Mulling over the picture idea...not ready to jump yet.

I'm 5' 5""...wide shoulders, long torso, 32 DD, and anywhere from a size 4 to 8, depending on how vanity sized the store is. I'm fine with sleeveless as long as it isn't tank top straps.

Yes, I think this is too much to ask without a picture to help! It's just that I've tried to search Nordstoms and there are like 1000 choices! I was just hoping someone had seen something recently that was ringing a bell.

Peri no worries on the photo. I still think we can help. Many people are looking and shopping and see things in their travels. Do you like prints - if so, size, colours etc? and how would you describe your style?

What does Talbot's line its dresses with? Does 100% cotton/linen or 97% cotton also include the lining? Seems to me that would make a huge difference on comfort. . .I hate when they say a natural fiber and they just mean the shell!

Your initial post gave me a chuckle. I have no specific ideas and don't go to many weddings. At the last summer wedding I attended, I wore a taupe ottoman silk unlined jacket and skirt from Travelsmith.com, so in addition to linen and cotton, you might want to consider ottoman silk. Travelsmith can be frumpy, but their stuff is comfortable and doesn't have to be dry cleaned.

Glory, I like the first one a lot! And Thistle, the black and white roses is making me rethink Talbots.

Is 53 too old for "fit and flare" cuteness?

It doesn't fit the flowy goal though...might be hot. Well, anything is going to be hot. I maintain they are crazy.

DonnaF - my rosé print be is 97% cotton and 3% elastane. The top is lined in a similar material. The skirt is unlined, but is plenty thick that there is no need to line it. I think if it were lined it would be too heavy for spring/ summer.

I like the fit and flare shape. It is airy on the legs.
