Help me choose some new glasses!

I have had many suggestions that I update my glasses and recently Angie made the same suggestion. I started my hunt today at a local shop which carries some upscale frames. I looked at numerous frames with the help of the Optician. I think she had the right idea of what I was looking for. Here are the best of what I was able to find. I tried frames in some of the colors that have been suggested. I want you all to know that green did not work for me. Neither did blue, or certain shades of plum. I found one pair in a light lavender that looked great, but they were light, and may not do what I need. I found another pair, with orange temples that were good, and we didn't photograph them. I think they may be overly limiting in terms of what I could wear with them

Here are the best so far.
1. Purple tortoise Prada frames
2. Purple on top, Light golden brown on bottom - Tom Ford
3. I think these were the Dior frames with interesting grey blue temples.
I have a favorite but I'm not sharing which. I would like to hear from you first.

3 is my favorite color--- that said, I'd like to see something lighter on you. Lilac sounds good and don't worry about the colors you could wear with your glasses . . . . on your face colored specs are like lipstick, a face brightening jewel! Mine are purple, a color I rarely wear.

I love #2 on you. It totally suits you. The third pair seemed just a tad bit large on your face.

I like #2 best… the others seem too large for your face. I'd be curious to see a more delicate frame for you.

Staysfit - I think you are narrow in the temple area - similar to me. I'd recommend trying a line like LaFont or Face a Face. #2 works - but I think you can do better.

I like the shape of #2 but would like to see a lighter color. The dark colors seem very harsh on you.

I actually like the shape of #1 best by far, and see I'm in the minority so far. I like the way the upswept corners flatter your cheekbones, and the lighter color brings out thr color in your eyes well.
The other two seem a bit too large.

I like the shape of #1 best, also. I am not sure about the colour simply because the reproduction on my laptop tonight is not the greatest.

Shopping for specs takes a while, but you will find your perfect pair!

Exciting but daunting task!
I like the shapes of 1 and 2, to me 3 is too large.

I am likely to purchase two pairs. One for everyday and one for fun. I can go back and try some lighter colors. The lavender pair was nice. I was trying to find something to increase contrast, but perhaps I can do that more subtlety. The shop I was in had a lot of black frames. Definitely not my color!

I can look in more shops also! I'm just starting. Im not in a hurry.

My first reaction is I like #2 the best but it is hard for me to judge close ups so I am poised to change my mind!

I like the shapes of 1 and 3 best on you, but they do seem a little wide to me. It could be the camera angle, though. I also like the color of 3; the others seem a little dark.
Choosing glasses can be so hard! I rely heavily on the expertise and opinions of the sales people, so I do find it helpful to go to a few different shops. It's amazing how different the advice can be from one sales person to the next.

I think that you can do better than these so I'm glad that you are going to keep on looking! I like the fact that #3 has thinner frames than the other two - how about trying the shapes of #1 and #2 - but with thinner frames? I don't think that a light colored frame would look all that good on you because (as you said) you need to have a higher contrast - but you never know!

Thanks everyone! I so appreciate all the feedback. I plan to keep looking so I will probably post some more frame pictures in a few days. I found a frame shop in Rochester NY, but that is around 2 hours from where I live. I have to find the time to drive there. They seem to have a wider variety of good frames than most of the shops around here.

Glad you're going to keep looking, because I think these frames are just "too much" for your features. I would say something in a lighter color and smaller too. Oh and I don't think you have to match your frames color with your outfit at all, just get one that suits your coloring.

The Tom Ford (#2) are my favourite, very closely followed by Prada (#1).....I would like to see a lighter tortoiseshell on you but there are not a lot around at the moment......I think these will work brilliantly as long as you have lip colour on to balance them. Keep posting more pics :).

Congrats on looking! I think a framed as opposed to frameless will totally modernize your look.
None of these are " the one" but you're getting there.
Look for something like # 1 but a tad lighter and even smaller meaning not too low on the cheek. See how the nose bridge on # 1 is higher and straighter? That is more flattering than the others. ( # 1 most, #2next# 3 least. Also same order for lens size being too much below your eye and hitting cheek) Hone in on shape shape shape and get them to order others colors for you to try- often there are more available. I agree that "color" is often unpredictable as to how it will translate in a frame- sometimes a light lining color makes a difference, or a tortoise or subtle pattern or shimmer- so once you find the right shape or shapes, you should be very open to trying a range of colors, , as you can't always tell by what it's called or how it looks on the wall or photo.

#1 is the best shape. #2 droops a little on the cheekbone, which is unflattering to my eye. But #1 is still too heavy and dark for your complexion. I support the decision to keep on looking. xo
