Help me choose, please. - YouLookFab Forum

I feel that I have my maternity style pretty well sorted for know except for getting dressed on Sundays, when I always wear a skirt or dress. I love skirts and dresses the rest of the time, too, it's just always so hard to find ones that cover everything I want to cover without looking dumpy (dresses) and to prevent orphans (skirts). If I did find some good dress/skirt options, I'd wear them frequently even during the week.

So I've been looking at ordering some maternity dresses at Nordstrom online, since I've heard around here that they are great with returns and exchanges.

#1-2 is by Topshop and comes in burgundy and charcoal. Does the color look more like rust on other monitors? I'm leaning towards the charcoal. Sizes only go down to 4, so I suspect this may be too large for know at least.

#3, Japanese Weekend, looks like a better burgundy. It's also good for nursing, so that's a plus. Is the neckline too strange? I wish it had a length listed - the model is probably taller than I am, but I sure wouldn't wear something that short.

Do either of these seem good enough to order and try? Or should I just keep looking? Dress shopping has been a frustrating quest for me over the last few years, and maternity dress pickings seem even slimmer! I need to do what Natalie (Goldenpig) has been doing and try some non-maternity styles that may still work...

I am not crazy about #1-2, but I quite like #3. Bonus points if you can wear it post partum

I agree with Emily. #1 and 2 might look frumpy, but #3 is possibly nice.

What you say about looking for non-maternity styles might work, especially with very stretchy fabric. For both my pregnancies, I often wore non-maternity knit tops, in a size or two larger than normal. But they were knit tops that had HUGE stretch potential.

Is wearing a dress on Sunday a must? Because to be honest, I found pants a lot easier during pregnancy, dressed up with a nice top.

I actually like them all and think they are worth trying. Burgundy would be lovely.

I think #1 looks a bit frumpy, and #2 is actually good, but looks odd when its shown this way without a model posing in it. It's in a cut that I think would be flattering for an expanding baby belly, and even after. #3 is straight forward pretty and I'm guessing you could wear tights or leggings for more coverage.

Hmm, I don't want frumpy but do like no-cleavage and midi length. Maybe that makes me automatically frumpy!

I do feel the need to skip pants on Sundays, especially as I pretty much only have skinny or straight leg casual bottoms. Maybe I could do wider legged dressy pants, but that would be an entirely new beast for me. My husband always wears a coat and tie with dress pants, many men wear suits, and nearly all the ladies are in dresses. I have some warmer weather pregnancy dresses from last time and loved how comfortable they were. I basically lived in them for the last trimester. I can't remember what I did in cold weather last time around... Probably frumped!

As Suz did give a yay vote to the possibilities of 1/2, I may still order both just to try. I'll definitely post a K/R.

One issue here is that I really don't prefer knit tops and dresses! Hard to avoid them while expecting...

I remember dresses getting shorter and shorter on me as my body got larger. I'd be afraid that #3 would end up as a top rather than a dress. My favorite is #2

Really wish the first two were shown with a model to get a better idea of the fit. I assume that your styling of both of those would really take those basics up a notch and in fact be good versatile pieces... I love the idea of the third one being used afterwards and for nursing...

I like #3! A lot! The color and style is more modern than 1/2 which could be a bit frumpish. Plus a lot of JW dresses have hidden access holes for nursing, which is so great when the baby comes. I have a bunch of JW tops that I used for nursing after my first two babies. I haven't been wearing them much lately but I think I will need to use them more after the baby comes. With the first two dresses, there is no easy way to nurse so you will not be able to use them much postpartum. It is an important consideration!

I prefer the 3rd option as it looks more fitted. The concern I have with the first two, as lovely as they are, is that they are too billowy and will end up looking a bit like a tent. I found definition really important or else I felt huge!

Agree with Deborah! The first two are more like "old-school" maternity dresses. I definitely feel like a whale when the fabric just hangs straight down from an empire waist. I guess that's why I've been wearing the Bailey 44 and other stretchy body-con dresses this time...more fitted under the bump.

I like #2 and #3. Those are both super pretty. #1, the color strikes me as being at odds with the fabric.

Do you have to do a dress? Or can top and skirt work? Natalie's posts have been very enlightening in this regard, not that I'll ever be pregnant again.
