Help me choose an event/outfit...and more blazer decisions!

This Friday we're traveling to our university alma mater, where my husband is giving a dinner speech to the trustees, administration, and the recipients of honorary degrees. I need to figure out what to wear to the reception/dinner. This is going to be a BIG outing for us since DH is still on crutches from the nerve damage...but we've booked a handicapped-accessible room and are determined to make this happen!

The weather will be a little cool (mid-60's), so I'm thinking a jacket over a dress might be an appropriate option. I'm also trying to narrow down my final blazer selections....see my previous post:

I'm keeping the safari blazer, but the tags are still on the BR seersucker blazer and the Aqua cream blazer.

#1 - BR seersucker blazer/Tory Burch blue snakeskin print dress
#2 - BR safari blazer/Tory Burch dress
#3 - BR safari blazer/Lauren brown tribal print dress
#4 - Aqua cream blazer/Tory Burch dress
#5 - Aqua cream blazer/black and white print Lauren dress
#6 - Aqua cream blazer/Lauren brown tribal print dress

The Aqua blazer is softer and a little dressier than the BR blazers, so I'm leaning toward wearing that one. I also wore simple nude patent pumps for all of these photos. Not sure if this is the best choice for a springtime event. Should I try sandals? I'm open to suggestions!

I actually like the aqua cream blazer the best for this kind of event. I like all three dresses!

while all outfits are quite nice, I like #1 best. I think that nude pumbs is ideal shoe for this outfit

I like #4! The blue dress and cream blazer seem especially crisp to me! I like the nude pumps!

These are all wonderful outfits -- clean and elegant and flattering. For your event, I prefer #4 and #5. I think the clear colors with high contrast against the jacket are dressier than the brown. I LOVE the brown dress with the safari jacket and #1 for another occasion!

All of these look SO good to me! You have a fabulous wardrobe Nancylee! I'm glad to hear your DH is feeling well enough to make the trip. I'm going to check your other thread to see if you've narrowed down your selection.

#1 and #4 are my favourites too! That said, I do love the blazer in #2 - a close call there.

Looks like #1 and #4 are in the lead. These are the two I felt best about, too! The love everyone is feeling for #1 is making me think even harder about keeping the seersucker. Hmmm.

BethAnn, I feel the same about #3 (brown print dress/safari jacket) for a more casual occasion. It feels good to know I have that option in my closet.

Claire, thanks for the kind words about my closet. I am a little apprehensive about this weekend trip with the recovering DH, but he is anxious to resume normal life...so I'm trying to help make that happen. Wish me luck!

I'm not crazy about the seersucker blazer (it's not bad, just not super great imho), but I love the other blazers. I'd say I like all the combos other than the first one!

#4 and #5 are my absolute favorites. I like #1 a lot too, but seersucker reads casual to me. I adore the jacket in number 2, but again, all those pockets add a casual note to it. The sleek jacket in #4 and 5 is perfect.

First, kudos to a very brave DH and a brave and supportive you!

These combinations all seem great. In a vacuum, my favourites on you are #1, then #6, and then #3. BUT, like I said, they're all really GREAT, so this is not at all meant to take anything away from the other outfits. And bringing context into the picture, for a dinner, I'm voting with Beth Ann for #4 and #5 as the most evening-appropriate and dressy.

I am leaning to #4 as well although I love the dress from #5 with the BR jacket so much. Isn't it great to have TOO MANY choices instead of fretting over the lack of one?

Have a wonderful time - hopefully the trip will be as relaxing as possible and give your hubby some confidence and motivation during his recovery. Sounds like a wonderful event.

I actually very much love nr. 1 and 2, they are so current, but may not achieve the level of dressiness needed, in fact I love all your dresses and all your blazers here! Have a nice time with Hubby there! Sounds a great event!

For this event I would love the bazer fron 4-6 teaned with a nude pump. You would look lovely and it would be perfect for the occasion.

My absolute favourite is #3 (LOVE that jacket for you Nancy!) but for this event, my have is #4. You look fresh, relaxed, and...I don't know...appropriate is what I want to say but it sounds like damning with faint praise when what I really mean is you look great in it!! Suited to the occasion, I guess.

So glad your husband is feeling ready to make this trip and that you are going with him. Enjoy!

I vote #4 too. I think the shoes are great. 60s sounds awfully cold for sandals to me!

The safari jacket looks too casual to my eyes for this event, although it looks great on you. I'd go with one of the other looks.

Thank you all for the excellent insight and advice. I've decided to wear #4 Friday night since it is the most dressy combination.

I'm a little late but can confirm I was thinking #4 best for the dressy event. I like all the jackets (no help there) I just think 4 is dressiest (1 and 2 more business casual) Dressy sandals would be my preference, but the nude pumps are fine - add a little blingy jewelry to really celebrate the big event.

Good choice. Definitely the Aqua blazer; this is a dressy occasion.

I like #4 AND #5!!!! (#5 a little more.....)
