Help me choose a hat!

Here are three contenders for the upcoming beach vacation. Any thoughts/preferences? I'm not really a hat person IRL although in my mind I sort of am - haha! But I would prefer not to look ridiculous if at all possible. Although when I look at these photos I cringe. Seriously. Ugh.

This is not a purchase I want to do a lot of research about, and in fact I really need to choose from this selection. Basically the hat has to get me through a week in Tulum and then sit in my closet for the next couple of years until we have another tropical vacation.

If you think you know the secret to me not looking like such an idiot let me know. Maybe I could find another hat tomorrow if these are all thumbs down.

You are too funny! You look great in all three hats, I like them all, and they are all so different it's a tough choice. My favorite is #1. But I'm not sure that is the one that shades your face the most. It looks like #2 provides the most shade.

ETA: I think you ARE a hat person!

I like No 1 best on you although it does not give you a lot of shade. They all look really cute on you!

#2 is the winner in my eyes, although that might just be because the band looks so lovely with your top.

1 is my favorite too, I think the jaunty look suits you, but there are no losers and I agree with Colette, with your delicate face and small head you do look like a hat person.

I vote Photo #3, which is hat number #2.

Hat #2 by a longshot. I prefer the width at the sides to showcase your hair a little more. It looks like the perfect fit to me.

I like all three! Are the first two crushable? If not, it's a pain to keep track of them.

#1 is my favourite, though #3 gives better sun protection imo. If you're open to shopping on holiday, tropical places are bound to have great hats : )

My vote goes to hat #2 (pic 3 and 4). Good sun protection, neutral color, and it looks cute on you

I thought you'd look a bit like me with a hat, because I am the absolute worst looking with one on. They just do not suit me at all! You, however, look great in all of them. You really cannot go wrong. I would also test, like JAileen suggested, their crushability, as they are then so much easier to pack and carry.

I like both on you. So I would consider which will be less a pain on the plane and/or pack better. I second the idea of grabbing one at the local market, but then I collect hats and wear them a lot. Which one feels/fits better (Tulum can be breezy) and which do you like with your sunglasses? Just one suggestion: try wearing them farther forward, kind of smooshed down over the crown of your head rather than perched on the back.

They sell tons of cool straw hats down there, of all styles. I always wait until I get there, buy one, and then just give it away when I leave. Just a suggestion! Tulum is so beautiful, a really special place.

I think all of these are adorable. You look great in hats.
My vote is hat #2, because of the wider brim, colored edge, lighter color and flattering shape. Second place is hat #1.

I love the look of hat #1, hat #3 seems to shade your face the best and is very cute but it also blocks people from seeing you well, hat #2 is a happy compromise.

Well, thank you everyone! It's so nice to be with friends who have opinions.

Jaileen: Thanks for mentioning crushability. I think that's worth considering, although I had planned on wearing it to travel. I think hat #2 is more crushable though. (This reminds me that once I had the perfect very crushable fedora once and left it somewhere -- darn. Where is that hat now???)

Cerinda: Thank you for the advice on how to alter the way the hat sits on my head! Will try that this morning.

Xtabay: I'm so excited for Tulum, and your comments make me moreso.

So, hat #2 definitely took the race but after a very close run with #1. I'm going to retry both hats this morning using Cerinda's advice, think about packability, and make the call. Thank you, everyone!

#2 but I'd likely get one with an even larger brim - I wear hats a lot in the pool and lake. I have a small collection but mostly wider brim.
