I know it's silly to buy sunglasses online. But I've been looking for tortoise shell sun glasses for a while now, and never found the right pair. Most were too loud for my personality.

I liked these online so ordered them. But I do know now that anything in the brown family looks terrible on me. Do these look ok?

Sorry for the crappy hair and oily face! I was taking an nap, thanks to a terrible migraine, when these arrived. I just took some pics and am uploading them so I have the answers by the time I'm awake. The tag and box these came in will wait on the bathroom counter, in case many of you suggest I return them.

Brown shades DO suit you, Maneera! I like the glasses, but they seem to be too wide for your face (at your brows level). The final decision depends on your self-perception. If you feel they're the right size, then they actually are)))

I like the colour on you, and they are nice classy frames. I wonder if they are cutting into your cheeks at all? They appear to be in the final shot. I have this problem with a lot of bigger frames!
But if they fit and are comfy, I think they look great.

I think these work on you! I just bought a pair of red glasses--a colour I never, ever wear near my face. The consultant at the eyeglass store explained that glasses can fall into a different category from clothing because they reflect and absorb light differently from fabric. I vote keep, especially if they're comfortable. I'm migraine prone too and sometimes get headaches from glasses and sunnies if they don't fit well.

Alexandra, I have been wearing aviators for yearsss!!!!! I think anything bigger is oversized on my face! But I'm kind of liking the whole over-sides look these days. I have tried a different pair of oversized glasses with a slightly rounded top corner earlier, and prefer these ones. I'll wear them again and check if they feel too wide.

Aliona, I'm happy to hear the consultants analysis that eyeglasses fall into a different category!

I am the dissenter here. I like the size and shape - I break the rules about size for sunglasses since it is normally difficult to discern the eye placement so you can go bigger. I am not in love with the lens color on you though. They look good but I am pretty sure a grey or less warm brown would look better.

I have been waiting for you to chime in Cheryle. You are the one who warned me about browns to begin with....and I thought of you when I tried these on.

I was in the mood for grey or purple sunglasses this time round, but tortoise shell glasses in brown is one of those 'timeless' styles that I always envisioned in my collection!

I see what you mean....I don't mind you being brutal and honest...in fact I appreciate it. The point of the K/R exercise here is to not make shopping errors and buy things that look just as good in real life as they do in your head. Thanks!

I don't actually mind the brown on you Manny, because, you do have brown eyes after all don't you? But... I adore the sound of grey or purple for you and maybe you could hold fast to find the right pair in one of those colours? Purple sounds gorgeous to me.

Hmm....I do love the sound of purple too. But that's a different story....I don't think purple tortoise shell will look good at all, Di.

I was thinking more of a smokey purpley/grey frame and a purple or grey tint lens maybe?

Mind you I always go for tortoisehell for me, but then my colouring is warmer. I do love tortoiseshell. Ultimately you need to decide.

ETA, what about a hybrid where the sides are still tortoishell
and the lenses more of a grey tint instead of brown... like these, actually the sides are a rose pink tint, which is nice.

I'm not loving them... they are not bad, but I do think you can do better. Not keen on the graduated colour in the lenses, nor the shape of the top as it relates to your eyebrows. But I do think the size is fine - oversized is what it's all about these days!

Funny you say you've been looking for this colour for ages, I just went through a major sunglass purchasing session, and did NOT want this colour, but it was what 75% of them were!

I am ALL about oversized sunnies! I quite like the size on you Maneera and don't mind the shape. I also like tortoiseshell. It's the lens color itself that is making me pause a bit.

Maneera, when you're feeling better, I'd love to see these with some of your favorite outfits. I'm interested in how the brown will play with your cooler-colored clothing. Definitely all in for the oversized lenses, though. Retro glam.

I think the frame color looks good with your hair, but I'm not loving the color of the lenses. I also don't think they follow the line of your eyebrows (or maybe it's where the bridge is hitting your nose - the fit doesn't seem to be quite right). Sorry to be negative...

Elizabeth, I see tortoiseshell a lot; just not ones I love. I really like the shape and detailing on these.

Diane, I love your advice. You've been super duper helpful. Thank you! I do think that grey/purple lens mixed in with tortoiseshell could be a good idea. Love the example too.

Shannon - I love a good classic piece. And that's why the desire for tortoiseshell. But I'm sure there are better pieces; and I now prefer oversized sunnies too

Jenn - I think I'll begin with your advice. Thank you! I'll dress up tomorrow and play with these. I think it may not be fair to judge these sunglasses until and unless the rest of the ensemble is in place. Good call!

You've gotten lots of great input already, but I just have one thought to add:

Tortoiseshell isn't the only classic frame pattern. You could be at least as classic with black, couldn't you? Or is it just that you want tortoiseshell, too?

Hope you are feeling better.
I don't know much about sunglasses so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I think you could do something happier( for a lack of better word ) , these ones seen very conservative to me.
