Help: I need specs

I need glasses for the first time in my life and unable to pull the trigger. I think I'm making myself more anxious the more I think about it...anyway, I think I might get two pair; below are some frames- would love to get some input on how to choose the right shape for my face. I would like to get a softer "color" like purple, red, brown, even green. I think black is "too", even though I'm drawn to the heavier frame styles.

Excuse my pictures- I really hate close-ups (and totally forgot makeup today)!

My first instinct is that #1 and #5 look the best on you. #2 and #4 seem maybe a little overpowering for your face, although I like the red color in #4. I also think you're right about softer colors working better than black for you. I think the shape in #3 might be really nice in another color, for instance.

I am no expert… but I am really drawn to the color and shape of #5. That pair makes a statement without overpowering your lovely face. I also like #4, but am wondering if the frames are a tad too large/heavy.

The other issue that's hugely important is fit. Glasses come in different sizes. There's the width across (crucial for ensuring your eyes are centred and to balance your face shape) and also the earpiece length, and the bridge size. You need to make sure that each measurement works for your face or you will be less comfortable (and probably won't look as good, either).

My favorites are 1 and 2. I think 3 is the least flattering--I think you look better with an angular style instead of a rounded one. And I'm being completely subjective.

I wish I looked that good without makeup! I was sure you had some on until I read your post.

I vote for #1. The others may be too wide for your face. Have you tried a narrower cateye shape?

I like #5 the best. I actually really like the shape of #4, but I think the frames are a bit too big/wide. A slightly smaller pair in the same shape might be nice.

Thanks everyone! It's funny how I see something totally different when looking at myself, so I appreciate all the objective input.

Suz- I checked out those links, thank you. I tried to apply all the tips. Some of these are a little large, but I want to remember the shape. And apparently I have a crooked bridge and all these samples sit lopsided so it's hard to gauge how often I would have to adjust. These are all very lightweight and I like the shapes.

Deb- I do love the cateye shape. I haven't found a pair that fits yet. And unfortunately our glasses shops here are very limited around here. I am spying a pair of green ones online, possibly for a second pair.

Does #5, or any narrower frames look to "safety goggles"? I really like them, but wonder....

I'm no expert but think that you should keep looking. The first looks like the best fit. I like the third pair as your eyes look more centered, but they cover your eyebrows too much. Did you look at Shannon's new specs threads? She has heavy frames but with parts that are clear, which lightens them up.

#5 looks very pretty on you. I prefer my frames to be lightweight but the trend is more with the heavier ones. Those get even heavier once the prescription lenses are on, so do allow for that.

I should add, just make sure your eyes are centered in the middle of the lens and that the edges of the frame are pretty much even with the edge of your head. Many frames come in different sizes so don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks again, everyone! I think I am going to check out a few more places and be blind for a little longer. I think I'm just not a natural, but I can't do contacts.

Deb- thanks for those sites! I do remember hearing of Warby Parker and could theoretically get to a B&M shop 2 hours away if I get desperate.

Has anyone heard of Zenni Optical? It's online and inexpensive. Tempting in that I could order a collection. But still, I think I might need some service.
