Help! Docs sizing question (+style)

I just found these beauties for over 50% off and I wanted some new shoes for fall anyway, so they are tempting. But they are only available in a size 37 which I guess corresponds to a UK4. I think when I tried some 14 eye boots two years ago the UK5 felt a bit tight, but I can't really remember exactly what the issue was. I usually wear a size 37.5 or 38... Do you think these are worth a try? I don't want to have the hassle with returns if they have no chance of working out.

What do you think about the style? I love the flower look (with hidden skulls in the front!).

They arrived today, but they were too small. Not by much though, I could get them on right. But my feet were a bit too wide so my smaller toes didn't have enough room.

I wear a 38 generally (sometimes 38.5) and my Docs are a UK6 (ideally I'd be a UK 5.5 but that does not exist; my toes hit the front of UK5), so I'm guessing these will be a little tight for you.

BUT it may depend on how you size your shoes. I determine my shoe size based on length (for example, all docs are too wide for me) but I know some people with wider feet determine it more by width.

Thanks Diana! You're right that I do have to take width into consideration because I have wide feet. Normally 38 has a bigger chance to work out, but with wider shoes I had 37 that fit me in the past. I would probably order a 4.5 in shoes with comfort width though, not a 4... Maybe there's my answer.

Don't know about the fit, but I love the style! Like you, I find the subtle design really appealing. I also like this more refined style of Docs that doesn't have the yellow stitching, for its versatility.

I wear a 39 or 40 usually (the ball of my foot is wide, and I often size up for width), and ordered Docs size 7 last week. They were huge on me. So I would be inclined to try a smaller size if I had the chance.

And I think Docs tend to run wide (the ones I tried were definitely wider than I expected).

Still, a 4 sounds pretty small.....

Love those shoes Astrid and am a HUGE fan of Docs - wearing mine today as a matter of fact!

I wear a US 6.5, UK4 and 37 European. I have had 4 pairs of Docs all UK4 - I do find their sizing very consistent which is great.

If you wear a 37.5 or 38 European, I suspect the UK4 might be a bit small.

Is there a b&m store nearby you can go and try on some that would have a similar footbed? They sound small, however I know when I tried on the more "traditional" Docs, I took them smaller than my wedge ones (which are a narrower, more "ladylike" footbed)

Thanks Amiable! I have to say I'm definitely tempted... Maybe I should just order them and try, without getting my hopes up too much. Otherwise I might end up second guessing myself all the time. Also I would have never ever bought these at full price, so I admit the mark down is tempting.

Thanks Elizabeth! We do have a B&M store where I could go. I'm still at home with a cold though and there aren't many pairs left, so that's not really an option.

Okay, I just placed the order. I can always return... But I know I would have kept thinking about them, so it's better to try. Ordered them for 85€ instead of 189€!

Astrid, I'm glad you ordered them. I was coming back to say that I thought the smaller size might work. I just ordered a pair of Docs that look very similar--a brogue style in pewter patent leather. I usually wear a 7 in US or 7.5 and have worn 37, 37.5, or 38 in European sizes--most often 37.5 if it's available. I ordered the 38 in the Docs, and they are huge. Lots of space all around my foot. So here's hoping yours will work!
