Help - Gala with "Fancy Cowboy" theme , ETA WIW

I'm going to an industry awards gala tomorrow night with the theme of Turquoise Trail. I'm told it will be similar to last year when the theme was Denim and Diamonds (i wasn't there last year but I've been to this in the past, before it had themes, and people dressed as if for a nice wedding, not black tie as the word "gala" implies). I'm told that people wore blingy jeans, fancy cowboy boots, bolo ties, etc. I've interpreted this as ""fancy cowboy". Considering this is New Mexico this is very easy for many people. However not me! Fancy cowboy is so not my style.

I've decided to wear a sheer long white shirt, black jeans, new shoes with a somewhat boot looking toe and a turquoise necklace. Here's a few photos. What do you all think? The white tank grins and I don't really like that. I tried it with a black tank too. Is black under white tacky?

Loving the look with the black Cami. Not for work; but for an occasion like this it adds that little touch of glamour.

I agree with L'Abeille. I think the black cami looks dressier and more put together than the white. Would love to see the necklace you're wearing with it! And your nails are awesome too.

Hmm, I think I like the idea of a white top better than black with a sheer blouse, if you had one you liked for that purpose. But if you have a turquoise necklace and the pictured shoes, seems to me that might be enough in keeping with the theme that you could have flexibility with the main outfit if you have another standby (e.g., a simple black dress or ensemble).

I'm with Penny in that I prefer the white tank, but I don't mind the black tank either. It certainly isn't tacky. And thanks for letting us see your dog.

You look great in this outfit, Sara. I prefer the black tank, which looks very sleek. I recognize this dilemma, though; sometimes I feel black may be a little stark, but I think for evening especially it works nicely. Sometimes I try a mid-range color like grey or light blue and see how it looks, too. What we need is an ombre tank, dark at the bottom and light at the top!

I might suggest the new chambray top with black pants or skirt and plenty of bling in the form of jewelry. But I'm super casual when it comes to going out.

Yes! Ombre would be perfect! No grinning at the bottom but not so obvious on top.

I would go for the white tank, it makes the shirt more 'whole' in my opinion. It also opens up a lot of possibilities with accesorries , i would ditch the turquoise and go with something beige or rosegold, not necessarily gold but something in that color scheme. I wouldn't suggest this if i didn't think the sleeves on your shirt were so beautiful and royal. I would continue in the royal tone of it all. So keep the white tank, ditch the turquoise and replace it with a beige or rosegold or maybe even a gold accessorie.

I think I like the black cami- it says, this is a sheer white overblouse.
I understand gold jewelry as an option but think it moves you further away from your theme. Though I can get huffy with " themes" because I think it pressures us to buy new thing we don't need, so I like your approach. Lots of silver and turquoise seems right. And wonder what works as hand bag that might support the theme? Or a silk " bandana" tied to it. This is where I need more girlfriends to borrow stuff from!

I love the outfit on you and prefer the black tank...a column of black with a sheer white topper. I'd love to see the necklace and think the shoes are great, although they do not look Western to me.

Do you have a turquoise tank? That would go with the theme and look deliberate. If not then the black tank is dressier...

I ended up with the black tank and black jeans. I changed my mind on the shoes and wore a pair of maroon flat boots that I had forgotten I had. I was worried the heel on the black pair would be too high to dance in. I included a close up of the necklace. It was a fun night. Usually these things are kind of boring, but some close friends were seated at our table and the band was good. They played country music and we two-stepped and did country western swing. The boots were perfect for dancing.

Awesome look in the end! Love the turquoise necklace, and those lovely boots! How could you forget you had those! I've been to 2 fashion/style shows at 2 malls in the past fortnight, for our Autumn, and burgundy colours are everywhere. Glad you had fun, wish I could have teleported to the event and danced with you all.
