Ladies!!! It's been ages, yet again, but I really hope everyone's been thriving since I was here last.
Me, I've been unbelievably busy. And the reason why is also what has me soliciting your advice today. Work has been particularly intense for the past several months due to an unusually hectic news cycle, but even prior to that my own career has been accelerating for about a year and a half. I now work two gigs (my full-time one and a side one with a small broadcast network). I've been trying to increase media coverage of disability and accessibility issues in the country, a project that's been challenging but gratifying.
My province is heading into an election next week, and that will be consuming much of my time until we actually go to the polls. But one thing I've been asked to do in the middle of the campaign is co-moderate a debate among the political party leaders specifically on disability issues. I'm going to geek right out here and say that this is really exciting and validating, for me at least. :p
Obviously my first concern was what to wear!! I've been chatting with a good friend of mine who gets equally geeky about such things and who wanted to help consult on my outfit choice. I've been happy to let her.
My friend quite astutely pointed out that I should probably avoid wearing any of the colours associated with the parties at play, since moderators are supposed to be neutral etc. An excellent call...and a fashion dilemma, since that pretty well eliminates two of my best shades (blue and red). Orange and green are also out, for what that's worth.
So my friend dove right in and started looking for options that are professional, stylish and non-partisan. She found a jacket that I'd like to run by you ladies. The idea of a fuchsia blazer is tremendously appealing for a bunch of reasons, and I'm off to see it in person soon, but what are your initial impressions? Aesthetically, does this pass the ylf test? Feel free to say no if it doesn't!

If everyone involved likes this, what would you wear under it? Grey midi-length sheath? Black pants/black and white top? I need to be mindful of the fact that this event will be livestreamed, so the ultimate outfit needs to look good on camera. For that reason I'm leery of a solid white top under the blazer. Some kind of column of dark neutral blue? If I go grey, what shade would be best?

Really looking forward to your feedback, ladies! Despite my long absences, it doesn't feel right to undertake any major fashion project without YLF input. Thank you in advance!

Michelle, that's really exciting, congratulations!

Your link isn't working for me, it just takes me to the Laura website rather than a specific item. But if the jacket DOES work for you, I like the idea of a grey column of colour under it, if grey is a colour you wear. Not as bold as black, so less attention grabbing.

What image do you want to project? Both a sheath dress and pants/top would seem appropriate. The latter would come across more relaxed and approachable to me, but that might just me.
I would go with black, grey, or navy as supporting pieces but others who wear more color might have some other ideas.

Michelle, good thing you look fab in lots of colours, and the fuschia jacket is a wonderful option. Do you have black pants? They have some nice shells you can wear under the jacket. This floral with asymmetrical hem might work:

Angie, I don't know what the deal is with this site but the links just don't post properly. Can you please describe the jacket you like the look of for the event so I can ask to see it in store when I go? If you have time to at lesat tell me the garment names of the other things you flagged, I'l check them out as well.
I should add that I now have nordy's in town!! So I can fill in existing outfit gaps if need be.

DEFINATELY get to Nordies too.

The other jacket I like for the event is a longer black collarless style in a black and white horizontal stripe. It sounds awful but it looks fabulous. It's called the Stripe Print Long Open Front Blazer.

Try the Sleeveless Floral Blouse for under the pink blazer. It's V-neck with a diagonal hem and gorgeous fuchsia flowers.

I love grey with intense shades of pink, especially if you don't want to wear a white top, which I agree might not be best, but I like Angie's black pants floral top suggestion because the print will break up the intensity of the both the fuschia and the black.

I think pants just look so great for this type of thing, no awkward dress smoothing, easy standing up and sitting down, I just like the whole vibe for a moderator.

The jacket is beautiful.. I can see it over a dove grey or print top and with black or medium to dark grey trousers.

Wow, that's amazing - congratulations, and what an important topic! My kids' public school is named for the incomparable Rick Hansen (we even had him visit once; what a thrill!); as such accessibility is a huge focus and has really opened my eyes to how much of an issue it is in so many places. Glad you will hold their feet to the fire over it!

I think you will look STUNNING in this blazer and if it was me, I;d go with a column of black under. Column of grey (e.g. the sheath, as you suggest) would be second choice if you want to tone it down a touch.

Michelle, this is really exciting. Congratulations on such a change in your career! I am sure you will make a difference in this area.
Knowing how you rock all clear bights I think this fuchsia blazer would look stunning on you (and on camera too). Have you considered a lipstick in a similar shade - it may look great with the blazer.
I vote for grey sheath under the blazer. Dress is so much dressier than any pants outfit and I also prefer the softness of grey with this bright color than the harshness of black. Solid grey sheath will let this blazer to be a star.
Whatever you choose I hope we will see a picture of that outfit.

Sveta: I actually don't own a grey sheath, though lord knows that has always been a HEWI for me! I did buy a steel blue shift dress, though, and paired it with the jacket over on another thread. I'll start a new one this weekend with a couple of different styling options.
