HECK of a request - Seattle (Puyallup) stand in for me?

I know this is WAY outside of the realm of a normal, could you do me a little favor, type of thing, but I spied a Craigslist item I've been dying for. Great luck, until I realized it's near SEATTLE and I'm in FL! I have emailed the poster about mailing but then there is the issue of giving/receiving money before or after an item is shipped and someone is bound to feel vulnerable in such a transaction!

Anyway, I had the crazy outside hope that maybe a Seattleite near Puyallup might be able to help me out. I know it's a LOT to ask but thought I'd throw it out there. If you have the time and or inclination to be my shopping stand in, please message me. I'd be happy to renumerate in some way.

Thanks Freckles, it doesn't hurt to ask, I figure. I know it's a busy time of year, though, and have absolutely no expectations. Who knows? Maybe I can work out mailing with the lister after all!

Puyallup is a good few hours from outside downtown Seattle where I live, Malina. Perhaps there is a YLF'er who lives in that area - or at least closer to it?

I don't quite understand why posting is not an option. Tell me more!

Thanks for clearing that up Angie - with Craig's list you deal directly person to person. Usually cash and in person. In theory, they could mail it if I PayPal them funds, but there is the trust issue - will they indeed mail or just run off with my transferred funds. And likewise, they may not trust me to send them money if they mail first. Craig'slist is not protected or overseen like eBay, it's more of a global want ad kind of thing.

Ah. Got it, Malina. This makes complete sense. Thanks for explaining. I guess it's a giveaway that I don't use Craig's List.

Hmm. I had thought Paypal was a method that gave you recourse in situations like that, or held onto the money or something. You should investigate that, because it might work.

There is a certain level of trust involved with any Craigslist transaction. Ask for more pix, do a search for the person to make sure they are legit and negotiate someway to send money by PayPal.

Andrea, SO nice of you to offer. I don't know - I haven't heard back from the poster yet. But I really, really, appreciate you offering. Malina, Paypal has buyer protection whether you buy through Ebay or not. They have their own claims and resolution process so, if the seller runs off with your money, Paypal will simply deduct it from their bank account and refund it you.
