It’s weird, I was realizing that the bond we share with pets is in some ways more pervasive than that with family members we don’t live with. These little furry family members are in your home every single day and night, they are dependent on you but also give such unconditional love in return. No wonder we feel their loss so deeply — it’s a n emotional and physical void in our lives when they leave, especially when you are lucky enough to have them around for nearly 16 years.
Tippi is doing fine. She’s always been the more clingy of the two pugs — she’s my shadow and follows me from room to room, while Sophie was more independent. So her behavior now seems pretty much the same. But I have little doubt that she feels the loss somehow. I think it may be good that the big dogs are here from the ranch indefinitely — having them here helps too.
