So sorry Janet. But you made the most loving and good decision to put her suffering before your and Jamie's. She will remain in your hearts and be remembered through these beautiful pictures.

So sorry that you’re going through this- thoughts and prayers for you, Jamie, and all your other pups. From the pictures, it’s clear Sophie was a beloved companion.

Ugh.... gut wrenching. I’m so sorry
We went through this last March , we still haven’t recovered
...heavy heart for you .

I'm so sorry, Janet. What a beautiful dog.

Janet, what a hard decision to make. Hang in there.

Thinking of you. Beautiful photos and such a loving pal.

So sorry. Thank you for the lovely photos. They show a happy much- loved pup.

So sorry for your loss. It seems you really did the right thing by letting her go, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. We have an emotional closeness to our pets that is so primal somehow, and it is so hard to let them go. She was so lucky to have spent her life with you.

Oh, Janet, I’m so sorry. Your beautiful photos show what a precious girl she was. It’s so hard letting them go. How is Tippi?

Thank you so much, every one of you. Your words do help. I know that so many of you know exactly how painful this is.

It’s weird, I was realizing that the bond we share with pets is in some ways more pervasive than that with family members we don’t live with. These little furry family members are in your home every single day and night, they are dependent on you but also give such unconditional love in return. No wonder we feel their loss so deeply — it’s a n emotional and physical void in our lives when they leave, especially when you are lucky enough to have them around for nearly 16 years.

Tippi is doing fine. She’s always been the more clingy of the two pugs — she’s my shadow and follows me from room to room, while Sophie was more independent. So her behavior now seems pretty much the same. But I have little doubt that she feels the loss somehow. I think it may be good that the big dogs are here from the ranch indefinitely — having them here helps too.

Janet, I am so sorry that Sophie got sick so quickly. Unfortunately cancer is like that - my last dog had lymphoma and so the end was very much like your experience with Sophie. We knew when it was time to let our brave little Westie go, but it was heartbreaking.

Your photos of Sophie are beautiful, you gave her a wonderful life. You are absolutely right about the bond you have with your pets, they are there with you and to not have them is such a massive hole. Glad that you and Tippi have the ranch dogs with you.

You are so right Janet . Distant relatives, or those we don’t live with have a much different effect.
Our pets are *family* too and they are a daily almost minute by minute part of our lives. They greet us when we come home, they comfort us when we are sad miss us when we are gone they are by our side through most of our chores and go through all the changes a family makes . All with a happy wag and loving eyes they are constant and loving companions and their loss is profound just as any family member would be.....sometimes more .

oh Janet, i'm so sorry....

Not surprisingly, those are the best pictures of anyone’s dog I have ever seen Angie, Bat Sam is a contender

I am so sorry for your loss. It’s hard but so sounds like the right choice. Maybe too soon to say this (and I have not read what everyone else wrote so sorry if this is a repeat) but after DH’s best living friend died my SIL said it’s hard to lose such a good friend, but wonderful to have had such a good friend.

Sounds the same here, and I love that you told her to go be with the ones you both had lost.

My heart is breaking too, as I look at her sweet photos. Sleep well, little Sophie.

Sending another batch of hugs your way, Janet. I'm glad Sophie isn't in pain anymore, but it's such an impossibly hard decision and so wretchedly hard to have to say goodbye. The pictures made me smile, darling Sophie had a wonderful life and was loved to bits, but how I wish our beloved pets could stay with us forever_

Janet, I am so sorry. I have been through that and it is indeed very hard.

Janet, I'm so sorry, that's a terrible loss. I love that you thought to say "find Grandma and Rocky" to her and the photo of you with Sophie and your mother is beautiful.

Im so sorry, so sad I wish they could live forever! They truly are family, and give us unconditional love.

I’m so sorry. They bring so much love and joy to our lives.

Such sad news and a hard decision. I think you did the right thing for Sophie, considering her age and pain with malignant tumors.

So sorry about your little Sophie. The longer they are with you the harder it gets to say goodbye.

So sorry for your loss, Janet. Sophie brought a lot of joy and comfort into your lives; the pictures make it easy to see how. She was fortunate to be part of your family for so long and will always be in your hearts.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Your photos are a lovely tribute to Sophie.

I am so sorry Janet. Your pictures of Sophie are beautiful. She sounds like she was a very sweet dog. Losing a pet is so difficult. We still miss our Sophie very much.

Janet, I am so sorry for your loss! I can guess at what you are experiencing with the loss of Sophie, because we also had to say goodbye to our dog, Farley two weeks ago. Farley was 13 and the vet diagnosed him with a brain tumor. I had hoped he would make it to the holidays so my kids could say goodbye, but DH and I couldn’t bear to watch him suffer any longer as he seemed to be struggling with very basic functions including holding up his head. His absence has made us very sad, and our lives and routines have changed in some unexpected ways. We are finding ways to adjust and to soothe our raw emotions. I hope you can also find some solace and peace in 2019 despite your loss. Pets are worth every moment of joy and company they provide despite their shorter lifespan. I hope your memories of the experiences you had with Sophie continue to be one of the great treasures in your life,

I'm so sorry, Janet. It's always so hard to part with our pets. I'm sure little Sophie had a wonderful and happy life with you. What a sweet little dog.

So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing the wonderful pictures.

Thank you again, everyone. I know many of you have been through this too, and some quite recently. We're still adjusting, but it's not as devastating as the first couple of days were. The other three dogs seem like everything is normal to them, so it's good that they are not struggling -- even Tippi, who is used to curling up with her "big sister."
