Late to the game but...
I haven't chimed in here as I have good intentions but haven't been able to make the commitment recently to act on them. I had lost weight successfully a few years back with a combination of finding exercises that I enjoyed and tracking my food intake online. Well, with a move entailing a longer commute as well as misplacing the Wii, all that fell by the wayside and the weight came back on.
Now... I recenlty got a new Smartphone and decided to download My Fitness Pal. I don't like it quite as much as my old online tracker (less personalizable, less flexible) but...it is accessible and I have been using it, because I can do it on the fly and I don't have to sit down later to take ages to enter it all online. And lo and behold, just by tracking what I eat, I have so far lost 6 lb in just 2 weeks! I know I can't expect to keep up that rate, but I see the scale a little lower every day instead of bouncing right back up again. Yay me!
The funny thing is, I am not really trying to change the way I eat (I always choose, and cook, healthy meals, well except for my sour cream weakness) but just the fact that I am recording it is making me plan ahead for healthy snacks to have ready at my weak moments, and think twice before filling my face with the mystery chips at the nursing station. (I even got to share a large movie popcorn with DH. But yikes! did you know one of those babies is 950 calories?)
We are planning a brief trip home over Christmas, and I am looking forward to not being heavier than when I saw my family the last time...
And here's hoping in the New Year I will maintain the motivation and also get back to a regular exercise routine, which I know is what will really make me healthier in the long run. (But for now seeing the lb. come off is nice, because DH appreciates the results whereas he hasn't been particularly supportive of me making time to exercise.)
