I seriously need some fall weather, but none in sight. This week looks like high “real feel” temps will hit 100 every day. Still, I’ve managed to get in an hour of outdoor exercise almost every day since we got home from London a week ago. The only day I didn’t do that, I got to a good, strenuous vinyasa yoga class. Yesterday was ridiculous — I decided to walk in the woods behind our house on the community path (unpaved, just dirt), and apparently no one in the neighborhood has been using it much because I managed to walk into about a hundred spider webs. Trust me, the combination of humidity and spider webs made for about the least refreshing walk I’ve ever taken. Basically a slog, but I got a good 45 minutes of exercise out of it.
Vacation was amazing but not good for the eating habits. Ever since we returned, I’ve resumed logging my meals with My Fitness Pal and have been very vigilant about hitting my activity goals (Fitbit totals have been over 10k every day). Cutting way back on alcohol after vacation — i had my first drink since vacation (a beer) last night. I’m also cutting back on sweets, but no one is going to deny me ice cream once a week! Especially when the weather is this hot and cruddy. I went into downtown Annapolis to get my walking in on Sunday and ended up watching the funeral procession for John McCain coming into the Naval Academy, and after I did that and logged my walking miles, I dragged my sweaty self into the best ice cream place in town and got a small scoop. Otherwise, I’ve been keeping to my moderate eating goals pretty well this week. Nothing drastic, just logging what I eat, which generally makes me pay more attention. I find that simply being more mindful helps me cut back.
Our pool pump stopped working while we were away, which also means the heater isn’t working, so I haven’t been swimming, but the temps have not been cooling off at night (in the mid-high 70s) so the water may not be too cool (I am a wuss about cold water). Today’s going to be another nasty hot and humid one, so I may switch it up and jump in the pool for a half hour of laps this morning.
