Alternatively: Healthy But Infrequent Habits
I’ve become a slave to my watch and its move and exercises rings. My move goal is quite modest, but impossible to achieve if you work from home and don’t actively take breaks to walk around. The exercise ring, meanwhile, has been repeatedly closed by me running on the spot in the kitchen, and doing step-ups on our rickety step stool. Those moments make me recall a conversation with my good friend, who believed that fitness watches tended to reflect what people did, but didn’t actively encourage people to exercise more. In my case, it has often made the difference of doing nothing vs something when I couldn’t make it to the gym (or didn’t feel like it).
In the last two weeks, I’ve been focused on cardio and endurance, and enjoy the high from medium-intensity, steady state activity (aka the elliptical on a high resistance setting for 30-80min). Weights have unfortunately taken a backseat for various reasons, though I’m going to try and squat tomorrow.
On the meditation front, I haven’t succeeded in making it a daily habit, but I’ve done it several times per week, and am able to remind myself periodically to focus on the breath.
How was your week?
