woohoo! sounds like you have a fun itinerary planned...(warning: long post!)
i live in the bay area, and would recommend layers for SF, to combat dodgy weather (68F day/56F night this weekend) and lots of walking. the list below tends to be my personal approach. take from it what you will!
comfy shoes--flats, flat/low-heeled boots, converse, evening shoes that you can walk in (if you go out on the town). whatever you have on hand.
denim--skinny, straight and/or trouser, whichever suits your style and shoe selection best (and can be tucked into boots if needed!)
hosiery--leggings and/or patterned stockings to wear with boots and skirt/dress.
dresses--if you wear them, jersey doesn't wrinkle, and can be worn with boots + leggings/stockings; if it can't be remixed for an evening dinner look, toss in a more
polished one.
skirts--if you wear them, a-line or pencil. dark denim holds shape and wrinkles less.
tops--whatever you like. smart casual pieces that can be worn with either pants/skirts, depending on your preference. cardigans are great layering pieces.
if your style, add a belt or two over tops, cardigans, sheath dress...
jacket--anything smart casual, and/or a knee length trench and light-mid-weight wool coat when the chill sets. looks great with skirts/dresses as well as pants.
accessories--fun scarves you can mix/match, fun jewelry to dress up more casual outfits, tote bag for daytime trots (holds water bottle, maps, camera/phone, sweater, wallet, travel-size umbrella, snacks, etc...evening purse, sunglasses.
i think angie mentioned a ranking: 1) glasses/sunglasses, 2) watch, 3) statement earrings OR statement necklace...(???)
if taking public transport, remember to bring $1 bills and quarters. most if not all require exact change to board.
FYI, i was in LA 2 weekends ago, and dealt with similar autumn weather! however, you might want to ask your friends/relatives what to pack. you might need a comfy pair of walking sandals, but as long as you have layers to work with, it should be easy!
i don't know about the vegas scene, but if you and DH plan on hitting the bar/club/lounge, you might want to pack something dressy nice as well. don't take my word for it though!
for the road trip, tops that won't wrinkle/show stains, comfy denim for lots of sitting/driving/popping out to take pics. i drove with my sister and her 2 kids (4 & 2) from the bay area to disneyland; my soho bootcut denim, converse, jersey knit top and cardigan held out great!
hope you have a great trip, sounds like so much fun!
