Have you seen jeans guide in new Lucky? What the heck!?

Okay, so the new Lucky trumpets "Perfect Jeans for Every Body" on the cover. On page 116, they show their six types, and here's what's there:

"Skinny": skinnies

"Trouser": skinnies without jean-style pockets

"Cargo": skinnies with cargo pockets

"Flared": the only one that's not skinny, but they're all skinny in the thigh

"Tuxedo": skinnies with stripes down the outer leg

"Patched": destroyed skinnies

Are they kidding? This is the selection "for every body"?!

Hilarious. I haven't yet found skinnies that don't give me muffin top and sausage casing legs when I sit down. Pass!

Argh... there are some things I've always had to take with a grain of salt in Lucky, and their denim guides are usually one of them. No skinnies of any variety will ever grace this body. I'm just holding my breath and hoping this craze will eventually pass the way the super low-rise craze eventually did.

I just got my copy of Lucky in the mail today, and I did notice the skinny-centric nature of their picks! Did you also notice how for the cargo skinny examples, all of the models are posed sideways? I'm thinking it's because the hip and thigh pockets make the models look "wide" so they have minimized the issue with the poses.

I also always love their shoe guide: The vast majority of the boots and shoes they feature have a 3-4" heel, except for if they have a flats section. It's nuts.

Yeah, I looked at the online version and had to laugh at the pipe cleaner thin model with the caption:

WHAT YOU NEED: "A low-slung trouser jean with a flare leg. If you're hippy, it'll even out your curves."

I love skinnies and do think all body types can wear them, but all the variables have to be just right. Most people can't wear skinnies with regular tops and shoes.

They would have done better to just show one pair of basic skinnies and the many different ways of wearing it to suit each body type, i.e. if you are a pear, wear them with a tunic top and heels; if you're a rectangle or broad-shouldered, you can wear your tops a bit shorter, etc.

Cargo skinnies are soooo the OPPOSITE of suitable for every body type.

I was always frustrated by the shoe choices in Lucky. There is never anything for people who actually walk! Unless anything has changed recently. Other things about the mag I really like.

I just got my Lucky mag today and had to laugh at all their variations of skinny leg jeans. Angie, is this what we are to expect this Fall and Winter?

I have never found jean style guides in magazines very helpful. I'll have to check out the Lucky issue for a few chuckles.

I'll be devastated if skinnies go out. If skinnies go out, we can kiss tunics goodbye, and no more tucking into boots either. I am amazed that there are still people in the world that don't wear them! I can't live without them!

I have skinnies and I like them okay, but they have never become my go-to jeans. I could wave goodbye to this trend without any significant regret -- which is why I'm not very pleased to see that Lucky seems to think there are no other jeans on the market.

Surely a jean, in order to be called a "trouser" style, needs more than just an absence of pockets? Surely "cargo" style requires a fuller leg?

AJ, skinnies are a mainstream basic just like bootcuts. I don't see them ever falling away. Fashion Week is still all about skinny pants. So many fashion gurus are eating their words. We are heading into our 5th year and 9th season of skinnies. AMAZING.

Although jeggings and leggings are competing with them for tucking purposes. I must be one of the few who does not wear boots over leggings, and I don't own jeggings. I wear boots over proper skinnies or jodhpur jeans. I guess I feel more polished and elegant that way.

I take everything in magazines with a grain of salt. Mags are fabulous for inspiration and "training your eye" (as my mother used to say) but do you remember Cosmo and the "20 ways to please your man?" type articles or the fashion pronouncements from fashion mags like, "This season, the blue purse is IT." Magazines have to fill pages with content and I guess Lucky is just trying to make a full "guide" out of the fact that skinnies are now mainstream and can look good on any body type if styled correctly.

I guess the "magazines must fill pages" imperative is what made me so surprised at their showing so little variation in style. Seems like if they had mixed things up a little, they might have gotten a four-page spread out of this feature instead of two.

OK, skinny jeans might now be mainstream, but certainly not the only style out there. The cargos, trousers, etc pictured were only variations of skinnies. And those cargos were AWFUL!
Just call me curmudgeon.
