I have also been on No Buy June. I really thought that I was all set for summer. I have pared down substantially with the notion that it is only two more months. As the weather is getting warmer, though, I have found myself searching my closet for solid tops that are not my trusty, ruched Caslon Ts. And I keep doing it thinking that they are going to magically appear. Crazy really, since I have not been shopping since May ! LOL

Today's Link Love with the link to novelty basics was an AH-HA moment for me. I need some cornerstones for my summer wardrobe. A white "novelty " top in solid white and one in color.

How about you ? Anything not there that you wish were ? ( And a link to my summer love : the Caslon ruched T. I have it in five colors. It is really lightweight without needing a camisole. Just FYI. )

Yes, but I've known for some time - a straight casual skirt. I tried 2 different versions over the last year or two and purged both last month. I had 2 I really liked but once I turned 40, they started to feel too short. So when I purged them, I tried replacing with the more recent 2 I purged. Bah! I just need one that is just right. Goldilocks has already slept in the wrong beds. No more!

Have I made any discoveries so far? Yep. I have no will power. I've ordered a dress from Australia and two pairs of Eileen Fisher pants for fall.

I never was on Say No June. And yes, I learned that black and grey do not make me happy in the summer. I ordered a few colorful cotton tops to get me through the summer

Well, I have the same issue as Shannon, but at least I've been very picky. I did realize that I much prefer a dressier top with denim shorts (as opposed to just a tee). I also have gotten better at choosing which shoes to wear with an outfit for a better overall effect. Is that the kind of thing you meant?

Oh, I made another discovery. My slim fit ribbed layer tanks do not balance more volume on the bottom, as I'd imagined. Case in point: exhibit A vs exhibit B. I was happily lounging when I thought I'd walk to get a pizza. But the photo told me that was not public viewing material. So I put on the looser tee, and viola - balance. Huhn.

Texas...yes, I was just joking around with Shannon. I meant really anything that comes to light as your are dressing. I like to keep a piece of paper and pencil close to my bureau. I write down any "insights" that I might have as I get dressed every day. That really helps me narrow it down. : )

Mine was that my summer tops skew really casual. Another is that I am saturated in many catagories of clothing. I'm letting myself shop but banning myself from more of the things I already have. We'll see how I do with this during NAS.

I have spent SO MUCH this month! I am truly amazed at the selections this Spring...this is not my dominant season but I am justifying it as catching up for leaner years, selection-wise

I'm another coat quest... one that keeps me warm while not looking like a winter coat and which is more my style than what I've got now. My *baseball* coat from last summer is too sporty luxe.

Yup, I discovered what should have been clear to me for the last decade plus, summer is short, but transition is long. That layer-able pieces should be the cornerstone of my wardrobe. That lightweight pants are a need & I should own as many casual pairs as I own shorts & jeans.

KK, wow. Your statement really struck me. I have never thought of it that way. That is so true for me too. The winter to spring transition is actually longer than our entire summer. What a great way to put it. THANK YOU !!!!!!

Yeah, Isabel, all of a sudden it was clear to me, but why it took so long for me to get it,I don't know. I think the fact that this year we seem to have 70d days,followed by 90d days seems to have made it clear to me. And then it will happen again in September and October

Great example Mo! I totally agree and get you on that. A slimmer top does not always balance more volume on bottom. I realized that too with my BF Kut shorts which are actually a bit big. When I finally cut off some of my jeans to make my own shorts - they fit me more streamlined and suddenly I felt better wearing them with certain tops. They aren't tight by any means, but they don't really have volume either. The KUT BFs (mine at least) are voluminous and I think they require a top that balances some of that volume so I don't look too small on the top half. You'd think with somewhat larger hair it would add the volume, but it really doesn't.

I am aware that I have no semiconservative summer tops. Most of them are a bit cropped and have spaghetti straps. I have only two real t-shirts. Last year I had two polo shirts that I wore a lot—this was before I was really into style. I looked really good in the polos but did not get along with their preppy vibe. So they have gone to Goodwill, and here I am trying to figure out what to do!

I ordered one of those Caslon tees that you linked to, and I looked absolutely awful. I got the white, and it was huge! The v-neck was almost down to my bra, and I looked so dumpy. And that was the XXS petite! But there are so many rave reviews that I can't help but wonder if I got a defective one or if it is the white one that is huge. What did you think about the sizing? They were terribly cute otherwise.

Gigi, I have a very long torso, so I don't have that problem. They are long. I am sorry. Do they have them in petites ?

The Loft ones come in petite, but other than that, I know nothing about them.

KK, that is a great insight! We have a short winter, but the mornings and evenings are cold and I feel the cold badly. I was wondering why I have bought so many winter clothes when our winter is so short and relatively mild, and this has crystallised it for me. Thank you!

Yes, Isabel, they do have them in petites', and that's what I tried. I was heartbroken, because the shirt was so neat. I didn't mind the length of the shirt overall, because you can easily scrunch it. It was the hugeness of the neck opening that was the deal breaker for me. Did you find the neckline to be really wide and deep on your tee? Did you get the white one?

@Gigi: I'm a 2-4P and sometimes wear PS in Ts and sometimes need PXS. The biggest factor is the neckline and shoulders as I am narrowish in the shoulders. In this T I am most definitely PXS; I have this in stripes, dots, and solid and they all fit me pretty similarly. And the neckline is lowish. I often need to size down in Ts due to the neckline. There's a heavy 3/4 sleeve V-neck Halogen or Caslon T, and I very definitely needed a PS in that one.

Thanks, Donna. I'm glad to know I wasn't just imagining things. All the reviews on the website talk about how bodycon the tee is and that you should size up for a looser fit. Goodness, if the fit had gotten any looser on me, I would been cited for indecent exposure with that neckline!

Gigi, I do find mine cut a little lower than others. When I feel less scandalous I wear these with it it. Angie recommended by the way and supet lightweight.
