Have you given up looking for anything recently?

I've decided to stop looking for dresses. I just can't find any that fit my body type well and are right for my style and needs, It's frustrating because I know so many of you rock dresses year-round, but it is even more frustrating to see how few options are really out there given my criteria. I've realized part of the problem is that being a short, busty IT/rectangle, anything that fits up top is too big in the hips, and anything that fits in the hips and length is too tight up top. And alterations just seem exhausting.

I'm at peace with this decision. If the right dress should happen along, I will embrace it with open arms (wow, this sounds like a relationship issue, not a wardrobe decision!).

Anyone else closing the door on a longtime search?

I'm done looking for blouses! I've decided to end the exhaustive search and wait for the right ones to come to me.

Nothing that I've been *looking* for, but definitely there are some things I need to stop buying because I don't use them. Like suiting pieces. I don't wear suits... even if the suit jacket is Helmut Lang or Narciso Rodriguez and $30, I just don't wear them enough to justify the purchase.

They sure are pretty though.

Hmmm. But maybe the dress (or whatever) thing IS like a relationship: When you are not looking and least expect to find it, the perfect/close to perfect one will show up! Active looking somehow jinxes it!

I had been actively looking for a couple of years for a dress since I had none and wanted one for DD's HS graduation (coming up next month). About six months ago while I was browsing to kill time during DD's voice lesson, a very nice un-Ross dress showed up at Ross in the non-Petite section where I never look. Then, a couple of months ago, I toddled over to non-Petite sale dresses (where I also never look) at Nordies after I made a return in Petites. Found a second dress. Finally, last month I was perusing Zappos for jeans and found a third dress on sale. I have not owned this many dresses in the past 20 - 30 years because I find fit and flattery so challenging. These dresses are all about the same style, however, so time will tell if I actually wear them.

My search for the perfect white shirt will be on hold until fall because I hate to pay for S/H and then coming up empty. AT, BR, and JCrew at least near me are so limited in the Petite clothing they carry in their B&M stores.

I've stopped actively searching for a "new" (not used) gingham shirt. I'm finding enough other shirts to fill my wardrobe hole, and one will turn up for me eventually at a price I'm willing to pay.

I'm not looking hard for dresses either. I have one summer and one winter dress, and for my body type, they are hard to fit and hard to find. I do much better with separates.

ETA: @DonnaF, from your lips to God's ears! Maybe Una and I will stumble upon some cool dresses when we least expect it. I'm reminded of Tanya's score on sundresses when she was looking for formals. And I finally found THE white button front shirt for me after all this time: Brooks Brothers via Ebay. It really is perfect.

Red blouse. I got one at a friend's swap last week and it will do. I can look again come fall. I have a feeling it's one of those things that will just appear before me when I least expect it. Much like love.

I said the same thing about dresses a few years back and had given up on them until yesterday when I promised to at least try some on. I am trying to be optimistic.
Button front blouses are really hard for me to find too and I usually don't bother. Why drive yourself nuts when you know you may not find it?

Work/casual sleeveless summer dresses. I've been looking since last summer and just haven't found what I want. So, I've decided to just let serendipity take over and hope the right one magically appears some day.

I'm about to give up, tried umpteen versions today of a slouchy white tank. They were either too sheer or not slouchy enough.

Just gave up on the 'nude' shoe --- the ones I've located all seem too dark or too pale on me, or maybe just too pink or too yellow or something... I dunno, just not nude! Thinking for low contrast, might look for grey instead of neither-here-nor-there biscuit beige?

Also given up on: the pants! The linen I finally managed to fit well into has disappeared from stores on this side of the country.

Ditto casual toppers: nothing I like is under $40, and thus not coming home with me! Since I've found a few stopgaps in the moving boxes, think I'll let the universe send me a sign sometime.

Well, that's not strictly giving up, I guess... just not actively looking...

Hmmm, it is more like I am trying to make myself stop looking at certain things that I already have in spades. But I do wish I could find more button down shirts that fit well.

I'm about to give up on orange mid-heel sandals and white jeans. Summer is not my dominant season, and I've been looking for these for two months! I'm starting to think that given our short summers I need to just stop looking and focus on making sure the rest of my outfits work!

I've given up on shopping for dresses. I'm trying to sew a couple, but have had issues with that too...sometimes, I'm too ambitious and things don't turn out right. Argh.

Oh for sure! Long list of things. I'm not deliberately shopping for anything anymore until the NAS. You often bump into the perfect item when you stop looking for it.

You "look" for things? Really? And you find them? Lucky girl! I almost always find things at the end of a rack , or standing alone because no one else wants it. I rarely find something I'm looking for. It must have something to do with my frame!

I've officially stopped looking for dress pants. Period. I have two in the making, my Sloans, and two cheapie ones that are falling apart... but it's just too hard to find them when I'm looking.

It seems like giving up is sometimes the magic touch, though - I found my summer boots, orange shirt, and white jacket all after I'd decided I didn't need to keep looking anymore.

I sympathize with you on dresses, though; I'm sort of easy to fit, but so picky when it comes to the style, color, and print. I would love to have more FFB dresses, but I just keep eliminating them all.

I have not found white jeans in 2 years but I don't give up yet. Just cannot give up - I like them too much. I don't actively looking for anything now - like Angie I am saving my money and my closet space for NAS...

I've given up looking for a DVF wrap dress--the three I tried just didn't work out and I figured out the the true wrap style is too risky for work. I'm really happy with the turquoise Michael Michael Kors faux wrap dress I ended up with instead. And ditto with Burberry trench coat--not that I was ever actively looking, but I can cross it off my bucket list since I now have the Kate Spade trench.

I have pretty much given up looking for the perfect pair of black slim leg trousers (primarily for the office). I have tried so many and none are right. They will be described as a skinny leg but are not! I do still hope that one day when I least expect it I will find them... but I am not actively looking.

I have stopped looking for the perfectly fitting dark wash jeans. I am sure I will find them at some point but till then I am content without them!

The last thing I gave up on were button down shirts or blouses that didn't gape at the bust and this month, I found FOUR! So you never know. You may just find an amazing dress Una

I'm abandoning my search for the perfect button down shirt that doesn't gape at the bust and for the perfect white t shirt that isn't too sheer. It's not like I'll go naked without them, so at least temporarily I'm suspending the search. I can spend my energy and money elsewhere.

Skirts and dresses. I am having skirts made instead. I would add white jeans too. And slouchy slacks that are long enough. I am going for custom made there too.

Well I just had to pop back to say Angie is so right. You often find things when you are not looking. I posted that I had given up looking for the perfect black slim leg pant... well I found them today. Totally by chance, in a store I have never shopped before and at a price that more than suited my budget.
