Have I made mistake?

Last week I fell in love with light blue handbag and bought it impulsively, without much thinking. And it is not returnable. Well, I don’t have anything in this color in my wardrobe. I went shopping yesterday hoping to find scarf or belt or shoes or anything to create complement but there was absolutely nothing in this particular color, not even in pattern. It is more warm than light blue color available in retail. Shopping online will probably be even more difficult - colors are not always the same as how they appear on the screen. Any ideas how to wear this handbag, and how to combine it with other colors? I am matchy matchy and when I had a handbag in stand alone color before I ended up rarely using it and regretting the purchase.

Bonus - my outfit for shopping yesterday - with the bag in question - I had to take it with me to compare colors.

I get what you mean by matchy matchy, I prefer to match handbags to footwear/belts, and not finding anything to match this is annoying!

However, I'd be tempted to match elsewhere in the outfit, and leave this bag as the 'stand out' piece of your outfit. So, suggestions like:

navy based outfit, so matching across top/bottoms, with bag as highlight.
match footwear/coat/scarf, with bag as highlight

I'm sure others will have ideas for you, good luck!

Fwiw I think it's perfect for your style, and even though it may not match anything you have per se-it goes tonally. Some ideas as far as a complement could be jewelry, like aquamarine or sea glass, or specs too. It's early in the season, more will turn up!

anchie, I am NOT matchy matchy but I think this is a gorgeous purse that will work well with your warm weather wardrobe. I just looked at your collections in finds, and I think it will harmonize especially well with your seasonal color and light neutral spring/summer capsules. I especially love the idea of it with your bright yellows, and that pale blush pink.

I actually really like it with yesterday's outfit. But if that kind of standalone pop of color is not your preferred outfit formula, maybe you could look for a scarf with a similar light blue (I don't think it would have to match exactly). Also try it with your pleated skirt!!!

I have a pale blue bag that matches nothing yet works with absolutely everything I own for summer . I wear it with literally every colour , and it has been one of my best purchases by far . I’m sure you’ll get great use out of yours .

I don't think that you have made a mistake. I think I would trust your instinct, love, impulsiveness for this beautiful bag. It looks super and I am nodding with LisaP, I think it will go with a lot of your wardrobe. It is a super bag!

Should go well with your yellow items, and red + pale blue is one of my most favourite combinations! Pale blue works great with black and white outfits.

I love it as a pop of color - something that stands out in a matchy look.

If you don’t find exact matches, how about a print? Maybe a scarf or statement necklace that has this color in addition to others you typically wear?

Anchie, I do not wear orange...and yet, I have not one but two orange bags! I wore one today with a neutral outfit of black, light blue denim, and black and white shoes, with my teal trench coat and a scarf that has all those colors in it. The scarf admittedly pulled it all together but I treat the orange bag as a pop with neutral outfits. Perhaps your blue bag would work well with your warm complementary colors like red, orange and yellow.

How about a patterned scarf with a tonal blue in it instead? I think something with the current icy blue and some blush or neutrals could work! Things can ‘go’ together without being matchy matchy, and once you have a scarf you definitely like with the bag you can wear those with light neutral outfits and other looks will follow.

No mistake. Good buy. That's a very pretty bag. Looks perfect for spring and summer.

However, I understand your need for matching your light blue bag to another item. Personally, I like to match my non-neutral bags not to belts or footwear, but rather to an item on the upper part of my body (top, topper, necklace, scarf) or an item on my head (hat, glasses, earrings).

How about a stripey blue & white woven shirt or a stripey blue & white summer blazer? (Most blues will do. It doesn't have to be a perfect match.) Or just matching the light blue bag to a solid navy blazer or a blue denim jacket ? (Different shades of blue are beautiful together.) Or how about a printed scarf in various shades of blue?

It's a great bag. You will find something. Try scarves, if you wear them. That is a good blue to wear with black and other dark neutrals. When more summer footwear comes out, you will probably find a blue that blends. Booties, not so much.

Anchie - I just bought a dusty blue bag myself. To echo Lisa and Angie, I plan to wear it with taupes, creams, blush and navy, and pretty much everything else. If you like the matchy matchy look, try going tonal and letting everything the same saturation level to get similar harmony and Polish.

I don’t worry about matching handbags to things. AT ALL. I just try not to clash with a given outfit. Enjoy in good health!

I have a light blue Furla, too. I have a few pairs of shoes to go with it. They’re about the same color, despite the photos.

You definitely don't need to match this bag because it will coordinate with everything. Light blue goes with just about everything - especially browns, whites, and yellow. And it will coordinate beautifully with navy or any darker or more intense blue, too.

Love the bag - I have been looking for a light blue bag and have found a place holder but still have bag envy . It looks brilliant with the neutrals in your outfit. I say enjoy the process of finding its matchy matchy compliments and have fun wearing it with all the combinations suggested above in the meanwhile.

Don't freak it out, Anchie it goes so well here on it's own, too- and sure with time you'll find a scarf or other accessory to complemet it as deserved and it is going to go with everything in summer! I too was surprised to see how well a light blue cross over bag (mine was a no name& inexpensive try) fitted my summery outfits-and I don't wear light blues, at all!:-)))

Thank you all for great suggestions. I especially love the combination with the yellow.
Crisis is averted! I passed by the store where I got the bag and noticed in the window that they have a matching scarf. DUH! And with all my favorite colors in it, so yes, I had to get it.
