Happy New Year everyone!

I wasn't actually looking for a new puffer this year, after the excessive coat haul I had in the fall. But I have been on the lookout for several years... I don't have a super warm one, and the one I wore most of last year was a cheap "make do" one from Costco - like many coats on me in order to get the right fit on the shoulder it was big around the hips. But it did the job.

Anyway, while Christmas shopping for others, I came across this one. It fits all the criteria... not marshmallowy, no brown fur on the hood, warm (700 fill down) and has an added bonus of being waterproof with sealed zippers. It has a removable down hood, which I would like get rid of to minimize bulk, for day to day wear. And it has a cool asymmetrical hem. Yeah, I know it's black, but my other warm coats aren't, so that's ok. Coat fit is hard for me, as is availability (without a lot of return fees) and hey, I love black

Looks good! I see how the style works well for IT shape. I have opposite issues! But getting one's correct shape + sleekness is a HEWI.
If you selfom wear hood you have option of fun with scarves to add accent colors.

Yes unfrumped, I'd definitely add scarves for interest. And probably coloured purses... red and cobalt.

Wow - this is cool! It looks terrific on you, but I love black puffers- adds a modern, urban edge to this necessary garment. Where is it from? Or what label is it? You had me at asymmetrical hem

Is the front hem long enough if you want to wear it with skirts/ dresses?

Lisa and Suz, it's from MEC. Looks like they only have M and L left :(. Might be worth checking out next year. The reviews say it runs large, I wouldn't agree with that... I'm between a medium and a large, and this is the large.

Not sure about the length and skirts Suz... Ill have to play a bit. But if it doesn't work that's okay, when I"m wearing skirts I don't necessarily need to be super warm as I'm not long outside. So can use other coats.

I forget about MEC . The damn store is so inconvenient to get to - which is part of their "charm" , I know. I used to buy a lot of gear, well, almost all of it in fact, from their website, but they've dropped off of my radar in the past 5 years or so. I'll have to make note of this for next winter.

I really like it on you. I love the simplicity of black coats in general and this seems like it would work well for you. If you want to, you can always lighten up the look with scarves, gloves etc. My only question is whether it is long enough for your climate?

Love the high/ low of this. The back detail is fab. Sometimes when you stop looking. You find exactly whst you where people looking for.

I think it looks good Elizabeth - I also have a coat with a lower/dipping hem - it is so useful for cold railway station benches, or if you want to sit on damp benches at the park. Reading that back sounds odd, so I hope you know what I mean!
I would keep it.

I really love it. I like the dramatic long fishtail hem in the back, and I'm with you on not liking brown fur on hoods. That's the reason I take most winter coats out of consideration.

MEC!! Who'd have thunk it?? I was just at one the other day! I didn't see this coat, that's for sure. Well, you've got yourself a real keeper. Great score!!

I think it's very attractive. Can you lift your arms up and move them comfortably forward and around in a circle? I know you said the shoulders fit, but I like to know there's plenty of room to move. Things are always different when you are about to start driving your car and you reach forward for the steering wheel! You don't want to have any binding then!

I like the puffer. Good shape. But have to say that it is awfully black. And yes, I have an arctic black puffer too - and wish it was NOT black.

Thank you everyone. In my climate, you need a variety of coats, so the way I see it, no coat needs to, nor will, satisfy 100% of your needs. We don't (generally) get really cold, but we get the damp bone chilling kind of cold. This will be perfect for that. It does pass the driving/arm swinging test, but it won't work with a heavy sweater or jacket under it. But that's okay, as others will. This is my "coat that feels cozy and not drafty if I'm not bundled up". I do need to make sure I'm totally happy with that... will think on it for a few days, for sure, before cutting any tags.

Suz, it wasn't in my store either, I came across it while searching online for wash bags and stuff sacs. Go figure But they have free shipping, and easy returns....

I love it. It looks perfect for you. And I have no reservations about it being black. You wear a lot of black and it suits you, and if your other warm coat isn't black, then having one that is seems perfect. I'm the opposite of Angie...every time I have a coat that isn't black, and I put it on and it clashes with what I'm wearing, or my bag, or adds one too many colors, I start to wonder why I didn't just buy a black coat in the first place!

I like that it's a puffer masquerading as an anorak. The style looks great on you--it even has a nice side view, with waist definition. I love the back hem detail, too. It is perhaps less sleek than a lot of puffer styles, and more casual looking in that way. I vote keep!

Because our climate is not as cold as yours, it has taken me some time to understand "The Puffer" This one is awesome. Possibly the best I have seen. I love the asymmetric hemline, it kind of reads dark and edgy in a Rick Owens sort of way. I love it.

Love the asymmetrical hem. The fact that is has real gear features, in a streamlined shape, makes this coat a keeper. Good job keeping your eyes open during your Christmas season shopping!

Great puffer! Why is it so difficult finding a puffer without fur or faux fur? Good find.
