Have I done a good orphan rescue ?

I bought this top a few years sgo, thinking it'd be good for dinner dates with jeans and heels. But I don't go for many of them plus it was too cold in winter and too hot in summer. So didn't get much wear.
I am trying it out for office wear and your critical comments are welcome.

I did try tucking it by the way, but my only skirt that fits at the waist snugly doesn't have an appropriate topper.
my fear is that this color scheme isn't great with my olive skin. It lacks a bright or white element.

I think it does work here Anne.
Untucked it looks fine with the blazer because it mimics the length.
Without the blazer it is office-appropriate due to the high neckline and detail.
Hard to tell about the colour in these pics.

Thanks Lyn - yes it is hard to tell with no natural light! The colour didn't look so bad with makeup on (which I am wearing here) as it did when I first put it on!

I really like it. The flounces contrast well with the crisp lines of the suit and the colour looks good in these photos.

Anne, I think it works. If you are concerned it washes you out why not try a slightly stronger lip colour Its a lovely top.

I think you look just great! If I met you at work for the first time, I would be keeping an eye out for any shopping bags (to suss out where you shop).

My immediate reaction is that it looks great and definitely works for office wear... I am really not sure about colours though - I am hopeless at that sort of thing.

It looks good! I like the ruffle detailing contrasted with the structure if the skirt and blazer.

I like how you have styled it over the skirt. It adds a fun, lighter element to a stricter suit. The length and shape constitute a modern element. However I hear you on the colour here. It has a tinge of gray that is hard to bear for any light colour skin. The ruffles make it impossible to add a colourful necklace or scarf.

My honest verdict: you made the best effort to rescue this orphan, and look gorgeous in this, with the jacket on. However the top on its own does not offer enough contrast with your skin. And the top being sleeveless, it leaves a lot of skin to not contrast with. So I would discard.

I think it looks really good for work in terms of style and proportion, as it looks sharp & coordinated with the suit-- a polished look . It's also a neutral and so is versatile. If you think it's not your best color, then put that on your replace/ upgrade list to aim for
specific flattering colors, but make use of it meanwhile.

I think this is a good layering piece for the office Anne and works well under the blazer. I like the interesting neck detail. I agree with Deborah that adding a bit of lip color will go a long way to brightening up the look.

Thanks for all your responses, and particularly Krish's for her honest and analytical opinion!

I put a bright pink flower broach on while getting dressed which I thought helped with the colour, but it looked a bit cheap (and it was indeed only $1!) and the kids thought it looked like fancy dress so I took it off. My lipstick was pretty bright at the beginning of the day, but it is hard to keep it that way all day, I find.

I'll see if I can get a shot in natural light so that you can see the colours better.

Not trying to sell "settling" but I do find that sometimes we are so critical we forget to notice what works about an outfit. My first impression was that this was a really nice work look. There are many boxes to tick off for an outfit, such as fit, proportion, comfort, footwear issues, occasion-rightness and so on, and of course color. I like to find flattering colors and stay away from the dead zone colors, but I also have made shopping mistakes by emphasizing color over fit and quality and proportion. So I try to remember to cut myself some slack because the alternative is either not leaving the house, or being in a constant state of dissatisfaction and clothes-hunting.
