Haute Hippie dress: advice please

I received the Haute Hippie studded dress and love the fabric. It's also not as short on me (5'2") as I feared. My concern is that it's too shapeless on me. Thoughts?

I'm looking for a dress to wear to my 50th birthday party (birthday next month, party probably in early fall), so I want something fun but flattering. Thanks in advance!

The print is stunning, but I think you are correct about it being shapeless. I wonder if a good seamstress could do a small taper, maybe empire type, just under the studs and that would give it a bit of shape.

I like it. It is not fitted in the waist if that is what you mean by shapeless. But it has a nice shape on you.

It's definitely a shift dress, so somewhat shapeless by design, but I think it skims you nicely, and the print/stud combo is divine. It would be a very memorable dress to wear for the occasion.

I think it looks great, as others have said since it's a shift that's just kind of how it will shape. The fit looks good; in photo #2 the armholes look low but that could be a photo angle thing. If you're more comfortable in something that's more hourglassy shaped it might be better to look for something else, but this dress certainly has a very nice breezy yet crisp look to it.

I think it looks great on you! I think with that print and embellishment, to have it fitted would just be too much. This keeps it modern and relaxed looking.

Beautiful print and colours! I can't judge fit on a dress to save my life, so will refrain from comment. The length would be a deal-breaker for me, but otherwise it is stunning.

The best way to judge would be a dead-on front view. Are you comfortable posting that? It's really the toughest angle for a shift but the best way.

That said, I love it on you. I LOVE shifts, so I can already tell you, I am sold. I adore that print -- still have to post pics of the longer dress in this print -- but it's beautiful and special. And a shift isn't meant to hug curves, just to hang. But the really nice thing about that is, you can just wear killer shoes, look fab, and eat all you want.

I think it's fantastic and you rock it. I know it takes some mental adjustment to wear a shift dress with its lack of conventional figure flattery, but... when they work, they make it clear that there's a good figure underneath, and that's exactly what's happening with yours. I actually think a sheath can sometimes be more flattering than something fitted, as a result.

Thank you for the critique and advice. I will get a photo of the dress straight on, as Viva suggested. I think I just need to get used to the idea of a shift since I don't have anything like it in my closet. I like the idea of being able to eat what I want and not worrying about it! Lol

Interesting that I don't see this dress as shapeless at all. I LOVE shifts and I think you have a fantastic shape in it. The colour and pattern and texture make for fab visual interest and are very flattering on you. I think this dress would be a great choice!

It is a bit hard to see from the pictures but I like what I see. It is supposed to fit this way and that's why it is a shorter length - leg display adds structure. You are slim so this is a good style for you if you are at peace with the length.

Gorgeous! I would wear this one out on your actual birthday, and then get something else, too, for the party.
In other words, I wouldn't let this dress go, because it looks fab on you. But if it's not what you want for the party, you should have what you want for that, too.

This is STUNNING. The large armholes and overall loose-ish fit are intentional. It looks better on you than the model. If you wear that to your 50s birthday your guests will think they have arrived at the wrong party
