Has anyone seen any good cotton-rich cigarette pants WITHOUT 2-way stretch?

I've decided I really want a new pair of black cigarette pants this fall. However, I am having a bit of a problem finding what I want. My big thing is NO TWO-WAY STRETCH, which is becoming super ubiquitous in skinny pants lately. I have been having lots of issues with the 2-way stretch being itchy and hot, so I am looking for something in a cotton-rich twill or poplin type fabric.

Currently I own the Gap Ultra Skinny, which does have the 2-way stretch, and the old BR Martin skinnies, which are a poly blend and also kind of hot. Both are wearable when it's colder out, but in more temperate weather they make my thighs itch.

I tried these on this morning, and the fabric is really nice (it's like a silky twill), but unfortunately the leg opening is way too wide.

Which brings me to my other issue. I have really skinny ankles (7.5") so I need an ankle opening of no more than 10". I have been finding a lot of so-called slim pants with 12" ankle openings recently. Keep in mind I wear a size 8-10, so if they grade the ankle opening according to size I'm screwed.

And they need to be somewhat pear friendly. I don't mind sizing up on a slimmer cut and possibly taking in the waist, but some brands (like Theory) are just never going to work, particularly with a lower-stretch fabric like I want.

So, wise ladies of YLF, any suggestions?

Asking not suggesting, but someone will know: is it possible to taper the leg on an otherwise excellent pair of pants? That seems simpler than taking in a waist, but maybe not?

In my limited experience it's actually more difficult, Ann, because you kind of have to do it all the way down the leg, otherwise the seams get twisted. I can actually do a small waist alteration myself (and I don't own a sewing machine) but I couldn't do the tapering.

In any case, I did consider trying to get the gap ones tapered, but to be honest I am not too happy with Gap's quality lately so I don't think it's worth it.

By the way, I have these in my Nordies' cart. Has anyone tried them? The website says the leg opening is 11" but they look narrower to me. I'm not sure they don't look too much like jeans though.

You do your own waist alterations without a sewing machine!?! That is a mad skill indeed.

Only if it's a small alteration and if the fabric is not too thick (doesn't work for jeans for example). Because I leave the excess fabric inside. (I am always afraid to cut into my clothes).

Have you tried White House Black Market? This seems like something that would be right up their alley. This summer I bought a pair of black pants that were called jeans but were actually twill. They were very soft. I'll bet they have something this fall that might be worth a try.

Hi Diana, I think these are the pants I tried on today at Target (I went for underwear--who knew?). They are also available in ankle length. They are a skinny pant that fit me well, so you'd have to take in the waist a bunch. The ankles are slim, but not legging-tight. They are 95& cotton and 5% Spandex.
The fabric felt nice to the touch, heavy, but I have no idea if the stretch was 2-way or not. They are machine wash and dry. I might go to another store to try on a different size tomorrow. If I do, I'll let you know what I learn.

PS @Suz, or any taupe-lovers out there, they come in a fantastic shade, I think they're calling it "timber".

i've never bought anything from River Island, but it seems to pop up a lot on fashion blogs and magazines (especially in high/low articles). anyway, they seem to have a ton of colors/patterns…not 100% cotton, but they seem not to have the 2way stretch

Have you tried the BR Sloans? I'm pretty sure they won't itch, and my clients wear them in Summer.

Love my BR Sloans. I would say the stretch is 2-way, but I don't find them itchy in the least.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Lots of good leads to check out, including many I wouldn't have thought of. I'll be sure to report back if I try anything.

Angie, the Sloans didn't fit right last time I tried (too tight in the hips and thighs) but they might be worth another try. I think the fall versions might be 2-way stretch though. What I really want is for them to start making Martin skinnies again as martins are the best cut for me.
