Oh yes ! Malcolm Gladwell wrote about this in Blink. It is fascinating. Gladwell's results showed he had a slight bias against Blacks. He is Black - his mother is Jamaican. Thanks for posting. I am going to take the test.
What you say is so true. We get all kinds of messaging that builds into our neuronal pathways. It is amazing for me to see my children and their friends for example, and how they think about gay people. They don't. There is absolutely no distinction for them. None. Recently, my son had 7 boys over for a sleepover. They are 12-13. One boy brought his My Little Pony to cuddle at night. They each had an animal or blanket. The next morning, I walked in and they were all watching My Little Pony with this boy. They all hated it but were doing it because he liked it. Some liked Ninjas, others liked spongebob, one liked my little pony. It struck me that there just was no difference to them. I know that it is not like this everywhere, but it is becoming more like this.
Like it or not, my generation and where I lived pointed out differences : even if it was in "accepting".....so did my religion. For that matter I have never liked the word "tolerance". No one should have to be "tolerated". But I know that I have biases : both toward and against.
