Harem pants: am I nuts...

...To think I should try this?

As you can see from my recent outfits, I've gravitated towards pants. I love how these are cut but I am aware the model has a particularly nice figure and is wearing WAY taller heels than I do.

Still, these intrigue me in a way previous harem pants haven't. The baggy shape is more minimal and the drape looks soft.

I think you should try it. My only caveat is if you have tiny feet, I think a delicate shoe will look off.

I don't think you're nuts at all. Where are these from? I like them a lot - especially that zipper trim - but wish she wasn't wearing them up so high . I'm dying to give them a good yank down onto her hips a little more.

Well, I have a very high waist, so that's how my pants look on me too! My hips start at that height so it's an accurate prediction of the height it will fall on me.

I definitely don't have tiny feet. Size 8.5-9!

I think you should give them a try, and I'm expecting them to work really nicely for you! I have Eileen Fisher black knit harem pants and a new pair by Stella Carakasi for spring, in a stone tencel fabric. Both of my pairs are more like a long skirt, in effect. I find it an easy sihouette to wear. I have another pair that is more pant-like, and what makes those work for me is that they are fitted at the waist. I think they will work like skirts for you, too, Kari, especially if you show the waist like the model does here.

They don't have to sit right up on the waist , even with an elastic waistband. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine, which means nothing to anyone other than me. I still think you should try them. I'm on the hunt for a harem, drapey pant myself, but am going el-cheapo as I'm not convinced they would have a lasting presence in my closet. Who the heck knows though - I am way older than you, and want to make sure i don't like a wanna be try- hard in them (Which is totally likely , given my age - ha)

Lisa, even wgen I try to wear pants low rise, it doesn't work. It's either muffin top or else the pants slide and roll down my hips. That's a big part of why I didn't wear pants for most of the last few years! Then higher rises became easier to find and I made peace with tucking sometimes even though my proportions are bizarre.

Showing the waist is partly what I find attractive about these pants. The structure amid the fluidity is appealing.

Kari, I have the high hip/long bum build and very little difference (6-8 inches) between waist to bust or hips. Oh. And a long inseam. As a result any pant with a drawstring or elastic waist looks like it sits right under my bust. It is very difficult, impossible really, to get a 'waist'.

Though I, too, am interested in a harem or jogger pant (liking the elastic ankle) I am looking for one with a sewn in or structured waistband that will sit just below my belly button.

Personally, I would pass on the pant, unless you are looking to wear your top OVER the waist vs tuck or semi tuck. *sorry*

I'd try them, just to see how you feel in them. They look great.
I have two pairs of harem pants for summer, and love their relaxed feel.
I'd style them with flats, tough.

I could see you rocking a silhouette like this, but I have the same feeling as Lisa about the high waist, and as Carla about the tucking. Admittedly, I have pretty sensitive eye to high waisted styles that come up so far with a significant bustline. It's not an easy fit, I know. I am narrow right under the bust, and then it's like a big ski slope down to my hips, so I understand about waistbands migrating up or down, depending on the cut. But if you're intrigued with them, no harm in giving them a try!
