I'm heading out to the mall for the last "return" of the year. Whew! One of my hopes for next year is to become a better shopper and not have so many returns. We'll see how that goes!

Anyway - I hope everyone has a wonderful, festive new year celebration. And that you all look fab, whatever you do tonight! (I think it's hubby and me at home watching a movie, which actually sounds fine!)

We'd planned to take the kids downtown for the fireworks (annual ritual) and then hit a friend's party on the way home. Unfortunately, we are getting dumped with 10 inches of snow and they are predicting high winds tonight, so fireworks may get cancelled. So it looks like we're in today and tonight - DH has put the champagne on ice!

They are saying this snowstorm may put us at a new December record. On the plus side, the previous 2 feet of snow had nearly all melted (except for the gigantic snow-plow piles) before this new snowstorm hit today.

I had wanted to hit the mall today to exchange some xmas gifts, but it looks like it's safer to stay inside and watch the snow fall.

I'm starting to get antsy - we've been housebound for days already, between DH having a nasty cold and the teens having their own plans requiring us on stand-by for taxi-driving. There's only so much cleaning, reading, budget-balancing, and catching up on CSI re-runs one can do!

Pete and I are going over to the house of a colleague of his fora quite evening. I was originally going to wear my high waisted tartan skirt and Docs, but changed my mind since they are supposed to be very casual and wear gear-like clothing all the time. So probably black velvet jeans and silver cashmere sweater.

Happy New Year!

My husband is drooling over all this fresh snow. He wants to go snowboarding, but our ski passes are blacked out until 400 pm because it's a holiday week. I really don't want to go out in this mess, so if he does go at 400, I'll stay home and relax.

Tonight, I have shrimp cocktail and warm humus dip, and a few other appetizers planned for dinner. We usually get a game of Dance Dance Revolution and Sing Star going too. We are leaving for our romantic getaway tomorrow, so we don't want to be up too late tonight.

Happy 2009!
Bryan and I are driving up to his folks' to celebrate Christmas with his side of the family. Today/tonight I'm wearing my Christmas Party outfit: High Heel Flare jeans, slate silk Quinn cami, bright pink button cuff cardigan, and grey/black oxfoard mary jane heels. (Our weather is in the 70's this week, boo.)
Tomorrow I will wear my black wool Madeline dress with the ruffle collar, nude fishnets, and black boots.

I guess you right Shiny I was thinking along the lines that pants and sweater are more casual then blouse, pencil skirt and tall boots. I might choose a fancy teal knitted top instead of the silver cashmere sweater. I don't have too many things here, I packed just a carry-on for 16 days. But it's NYE, so I refuse to go in jeans and turtleneck, no matter how casual they may be.

In my part of the Europe NYE is a huge deal, everybody wears there fanciest ( think sequined cocktail dresses), usually something new and always something red for luck ( if not a piece of clothing than at least a piece of underwear).

Oh, I think you should pull out all the stops! If your hosts roll their eyes, just tell them that's what you packed. Then tell them about the tradition of wearing red for luck - cute story!

I would wear the tartan skirt and the Docs. Yes it's a skirt vs pants but it sounds casual yet chic at the same time.

I will probably ring in the new year wearing my North 66 gear, since it looks like we'll be doing a lot of shoveling later. Although DH is saying we should all trudge through the snow to our favorite local pub for an early new years dinner. They are always open. However, even then, it would make more sense to wear the North 66 pants because it's cold, windy and really coming down out there. DD just tried to go running and came back right away saying it was impossible.

Tanya- We have the red underwear tradition too in my neck of the woods, too. All stores sell cute, red underwear in attractive packaging (and boxers for men) and I have always received one from my mom or grandmother as a new year's eve present. It is supposed to bring good luck.

We are heading to a party and will stay until the new year. I'm going to wear my new sweater dress and a pair of black dress boots I bought on Sunday. It's Franco Sarto, thanks to Shiny for the tip! I'm not sure if they are the same as yours but they look pretty good and feel very comfortable. My sister and I each bought a pair.

My sister and I went to shopping in the past few days, we'll hit the mall again tomorrow to buy the last few items on her list. We have accomplished a lot, she bought almost every thing on her list and more, what's better is that they are mostly 50% or more off the regular price. She found her bag at French Connection well below her budget, I'll post the picture later.

Thanks to everyone on this forum for adding a fun component to my life. I feel like I have a new group of acquaintances and I like it! I have learned so much from all of you. You are a fab bunch!
We are in Florida and will meet some friends who are also down here for a late dinner.

We saw Valkyrie and Doubt this week and enjoyed both of them very much. Benjamin Button may be in the cards for tonight!

Sounds fun! We're going to a meditation/dinner/dance that usually brings us into the morning but we'll see DH has a sore throat so it may be shortened.

I went out to the mall and bought a top - unusual style for me but I was drawn to it and just went for it. I think you're all having an effect on me. I didn't like to shop before and now I want a purse in every color. Fortunately, the top was on sale so that I'll have more to spend later. hehe

Looks like everyone has great plans! Travel safely and have fun.

Seattle will be one of the last places to ring in the New Year. It’s only 6pm at the moment. We have the rest of the “Madmen” TV series and Indonesian food planned for tonight, plus the fireworks display from our bedroom window.

Happy new year everyone! Mike and I are headed to my sister and her boyfriend's place for homemade pizza, video games, and sparkling Shiraz. I am sick (boo) and their place is cold so I scrapped my stylish casual plans and I'm wearing wide-legged yoga pants, a striped T, and my new Roots hoodie with sheepskin slippers. We will be lying on the couch and eating all night, so whatever!

Angie, do you cook your own Indonesian food? Sounds yum.

Well it is early afternoon here. We had a very quiet new years at the house we are housesitting. We tried a gourmet pizza that a local place had an opening deal on ( too many olives for my preference!) and then I watched West Wing on DVD ( I didn't see it on TV) while DH watched Alias (which I never watch) on the computer. Pretty seen I will have caught up on enough WW so that we can watch it together which I prefer.I feel weird doing things like that separately. I also tried to catch up on YLF!

Well it is snowing like crazy here. We are in for the night, just watched a design show (for me) and a nature show for DH. We had leftovers for dinner and are trying to choose a color for our new oven that we are about to order. I am already in PJ"s, (no need to describe a not very fashionable ensemble). I am perfectly content to be inside and warm.
Tanya, I love that you remain true to your style among gear wearing friends. I have similar situations with hippie artist types who do not care for fashion. I never can understand how they cannot enjoy all the color, shape and texture decisions. I love that we all share a common passion!

Happy new year everyone. It is frigid and snowing here so I'm stuck in my parents' hosue, and all the trains are delayed, so I had to ditch out of the plans I had made. I made cookies and played scrabble with a friend who has to work tonight, and will shortly be watching the fireworks from the window. I don't mind a quiet nye.

I ended up wearing black velvet jeans, pretty blue top and sparkly chunky necklace and was waay overdressed. The hostess wore a hoodie, 'mom' jeans and big white sneakers, the guys plaid flannel shirts and pleated baggy tapered khakis. But they were very nice people and excellent hosts. And they had two gorgeous cats I got to pet

Happy New Year everyone!

Moving meant we had to ditch the Casino Royale cocktail party overlooking Sydney Harbour we were invited too - boo!! I have no idea where the dress I was planning on wearing was packed, plus we were too exhausted to trek back up to Sydney.

Instead, we wandered up to the headland on the other side of our new beach and had a picnic and bubbly. The headland overlooked local fireworks 20km away. Until half an hour before the fireworks we had the place to ourself, then another small group arrived. It was pretty magical actually!! After the 930 fireworks I was home and in bed by 11pm. Gone are the days when I'm out partying till 11am that's for sure!!!

I'm sorry to hear some of you being sick on New Year's Eve, what a bummer. We are all usually all pooped out from so much hliday activity by time New Year's Eve rolls around so we rented movies and stayed in. We watched Sex and the City. It started slow but then picked up speed and ended up being a pretty good movie. I think Angie said she was disappointed in the styles the ladies wore and I agree there wasn't much interesting in that dept.

happy *slightly belated* new year from san jose, CA!

i wore a dark navy 3/4 sleeve jersey dress, black pinstripe stockings, knee high low heeled black boots, xmas pearl earrings from the bf and a sassy sparkly/aqua/yellow/gold beaded, retro thrifted clip on earring as a faux-brooch clasped at my v-neckline in lieu of a necklace (whew!)

bf wore jeans, a new black t shirt and heavy jacket...indoors! sadly, he was still recovering from food poisoning, and was feeling extra chilly. poor thing! we watched all the revelers on tv--in between the non-stop 'twilight zone' marathon, oohhhh yeaaaah!!!--so that was fun
