A few weeks ago I was able to purchase a Marc by Marc Jacobs satchel handbag for about 375.00, normally 475.00. Its beautiful leather, great color, etc. However I have never spent more than 150.00 on a handbag and am now questioning my purchase. I love the bag but am feeling guilty about how exp. this one is and haven't even taken off the price tags yet. To all of you who have bought a really pricey handbag your opinions please. Are you glad you did? Did you also have a hard time dealing with the investment? Angie, is there usually great deals on handbags at the NAS and should I wait to make my decision until I see that inventory?

Njw - I haven't had your experience with handbags, but I did get some quite expensive Duo boots. I had a similar reaction to yours, I was very nervous about it. Now I am SO GLAD that I got them. They fit very well, they are well made, they will last for a long time, and they look great. Buying quality pieces that will last for a long time is so worth it!

If you're not sure about the specific handbag, maybe you should post some photos for feedback? Maybe you're feeling nervous because you suspect that the handbag isn't quite your style. We could help you out with that.

I agree with Medusa, if you are questioning the bag because of style, maybe photos would help? Otherwise, consider how much you love the bag, the quality bags can and should last a LONG time, so if you will tire of it, you may want to look elseware. I have a co-worker who changes up bags all the time so she buys cheaper, fun bags, and another one who has one high quality bag that is used everyday year round.

It's up to you how much you are willing to spend on a handbag. Handbags are my thing and I save my pennies to purchase expensive handbags. I'd rather forgo a range of tops or fab pair of shoes than skimp on my handbag purchase. I'm also almost 40 and feel that my age and budget warrants the luxury. 10 to 15 years ago it was completely out of the question for my style, unless I was gifted with designer handbags (fashion buyers get perks).

Cost per wear is important to consider too. Will you wear this hand bag alot? But there is also nothing wrong with sporting inexpensive handbags at all. H&M, MNG and Zara have gorgeous bags at a fraction of the price. Just be discerning about the quality.

The NAS will have great handbags on sale though. There is no question in my mind. Perhaps you'd like to compare the offerings?

I've had the same dilemma. It depends on how much you love the bag, how much you will use it, and can you afford it. Something on sale isn't a deal unless you love it, will use it, can afford it.

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. I bought a beautiful bag at a great discount but still very pricey. I felt very guilty about it at the time, but now I am happy because I still love the bag and use it as much as possible. It is actually also the best bag that I have in terms of functionality. I get tons of compliments on it, even from complete strangers. Even from people who don't even like handbags (e.g. complete tomboys who wouldn't be caught dead holding a handbag). I am someone who likes to buy fewer things and wants them to last years, though, so that aspect depends on your personality. Some people get bored by things.
I think the main questions here are whether the bag jeopardizes your budget and whether the quality matches the price. A good quality bag should last you years.

I don't have any Marc Jacobs bags, but I assume it is one which should hold up well for years.

Yes it is except mine is the reg. size not the baby and the brown is a bit darker sort of in between the camel and the choc. brown What do you think Angie? I liked it because it didn't have the M. Jacobs square metal piece on the bag itself; its on the handle...I also like satchels so I have the option of over my shoulder if my hands are full but also can be just on my arm with shorter straps. I think its a great bag...am prob. just in sticker shock!

Oh my goodness, njw, I think I linked to that exact bag (in the "Wave" color) on a thread earlier this year. I can't find it at the moment, but if I remember correctly the topic was something about things we were drooling over...

It is definitely classic and non-blingy, so you will be able to carry it for years. If you love it, I say embrace it and carry it proudly.

Thank you...I TRULY appreciate and value all of your opinions and honest feedback. I am slowly recovering from the shock of thinking that I have spent this much on a handbag...not there 100% but am more comfortable with the thought now than a few days ago and I owe it my YLF friends.

I just love the Wave one! It is a beautiful bag. Unless you go hungry for a month because you spent that much on a bag don't worry. You may save on clothing and accessories now because this bag is the star. Do you feel better already?
