Handbags: Do I choose color over size?

It's been a while since I've been here, please forgive me! Hope everyone has been well.

I need handbag HELP! And of course you gals came to mind immediately!

Many of you helped me pick out a Coach bag in late summer. I went with a large metallic bag. Well, I need to return it. The metallic finish is wearing off. It started almost immediately and just keeps getting worse. And for close to $500 I am not happy about that! Coach is allowing me to return it and pick out something else.
But of course now I am having trouble picking another one out. I don't usually spend anywhere close to $500 on a handbag (this is a gift) so I want something that I can carry the end of winter, into spring and possibly even beyond into summer?

My #1 style choice is the Madison Leather Lindsey Satchel. This is the closest style to the one I have now, and I love all the room it gives me. (It often doubles as a diaper bag!)
And I love the persimmon color, but of course it is out of stock.

So, do I go with the style I love in a different color?
Safflower? (Photo 2)
Or maybe saddle? (Photo 3)

Or do I stay with the persimmon color that I love and go down a size to the Madison leather sophia satchel? (Photo 4)

I just can't decide if I would miss the larger size.

I would go size over color on this one, especially since you might need to use it as a diaper bag. I happen to like the color on #3.
Is the bag you want expected to be back in stock? I might wait it out.

I would go color over size, personally. But I also don't carry large bags. Ideally, I'd wait until both the color and size I like are available and not compromise on either front!

Thanks ladies. Unfortunately, I can't wait. I have to return the current bag asap and this has to be done through my company as it was a gift from my employer. They use a corporate account, and I have to tell them what I want when I hand over the bag I am returning today.

Oh! Just saw the blog post about spring (Teaser: 4 Must Have Items for Spring 2012) and orange is listed as a must have....so now I REALLY want the orange handbag!

If you can find orange in the size that works for you, that would be perfect!

Can you pop into a store and see how all your items fit into the smaller size? I always thought I liked a larger bag, but realized I can actually function very well with the smaller one. But then I don't need to carry diapers.

How old is your kiddo? How long will you need a full-force diaper bag?

I think all these colors are pretty seasonless.

Hello modgrl! It's good to be back. I hope I can be a regular again soon. My company went casual last fall and I really fell into a fashion slump around that time. I am ready to pick back up!

I am going to ask about the larger style in orange and if that is a no go then I am going to go with the smaller style in orange. I know i can swing the smaller style. As Rae suggests, I know I can go without some of the crap I tend to carry!

I love the orange and push as much as you can to see if they can locate the large orange for you. Then, if that avenue comes up short, go for the smaller orange one, using Rae's great advice. Isn't it fun that you can be both casual and stylish at work?

I still vote for the larger one. Smaller bags have always dissapointed me

Ladies, it's my lucky day! Just spoke to the HR rep who handles all the company gifts and she was nice enough to just give me the receipt so that I can handle the exchange making it much easier on me! I can even go to the outlet and get more for my money if I choose. Decisions, decisions!

I agree, get something you really love in a great colour. $500 is a lot of money for a bag and you should be totally happy with your choice, even if you have to wait til the Spring stock comes in.
