Handbags - Team Big or Team Small?

I am thinking of buying a new handbag and I can't make up my mind... My favourite ever bag was a large leather messenger bag and I miss it so my first choice is this:

But then this caught my eye...

I like the unusual shape of this, but not crazy about the brown leather... I love the nude of the first link...

And then I got to thinking do I need something that big (although it is nice to be able to toss in my iPad etc. I quite liked this smaller version of the first bag... could happily wear it cross body but it is really only big enough for the essentials!

Depends on your lifestyle. I used to carry a purse big enough for my wallet, car keys, phone and that was about it.

Now with DD, I need to carry snacks etc. So I had to get a bigger purse. I miss my smaller purse.

I guess now that my kids are bigger, I don't need a huge bag anymore, although I do often land up lugging random junk for them anyway, but I do like the statement of a big bag.

I like bigger bags, primarily because I can't fit everything into a small bag. I try to get something that's large enough fot what I need to carry, but not too big.

Small. I had to find a Kindle case that would allow me to still fit the Kindle into my 'big' purse. I'm not much of a bag lady though. I tend to find one or two I really like and stick with them for years on end.

I have a variety of sizes. My satchels are large enough to accommodate quite a bit but I have scaled down my essentials to be able to regularly use daytime clutches too.

Huge bag I like to be able to carry everything I could possibly need for my commute, i.e. umbrella, wallet, kindle, knitting, hat, gloves, etc.

Medium-size bags are most functional for me and are okay with my proportions. Tiny bags look silly on me and don't accommodate my giant phone; large bags are too heavy but come in handy for air travel. I have several favorite clutches and use them mostly for travel to subdivide my bigger bag and for dinner outings when I'm not carrying sunscreen, travel brochures, etc.
This summer I bought a bag in mixed prints- it was my last day to make an exchange at a thrift shop and the bag was NWT and an even exchange. I had awful buyer's remorse for awhile because I thought it was odd and maybe juvenile, finally carried it and loved it! It is feather-light and adds instant interest to neutral or colorblocked outfits. So if you're still thinking about the print bag I'd say try it.

Hmmmm bags are such a difficult decision, I usually find one that simply must be mine. I have a larger tote for work that everything will fit in and I like it because it it plain and simple but has a little softness, not too corporate.
I found this in the men's department I also have little cross body bags that get lots of use on weekends when I just don't want to carry junk around.
My main everyday bag is a medium size bucket style bag that I love it fits everything I need except for work stuff !!!!!!

I'm on Team Big-Enough-For-iPad because the iPad is so useful when you're in a waiting situation But the last one you linked to is so, so pretty! So it depends on your lifestyle, I guess? If you're a keys and wallet girl then maybe going minimal will work?

I have visited Team Big many times but invariably my shoulder acts up and I downsize. My chiropractor is always the first to know when I've been bigging it up too much!

i am on team medium for everyday but considering sizing up. this is for work and travel. otherwise, i shove my keys in one pocket, my wallet in the other and wear gloves. my phone goes in my back pocket or in my hand.

I am short, and I don't want my bag to overpower. Sadly, when I've tried on bags, it doesn't take much! A medium bag look like a large bag on me. Also, I don't to have back or shoulder problems and I know I will fill any bag to capacity whether I truly need the stuff or not. I am on Team Small to Medium Bag. And, uh, due to my size limitations, I've found that highly structured bags hold less than softer ones, and thick ones look visually smaller than flat ones which generally hold less anyway other than maybe iPads which I don't have.

Medium sized bags are usually best for me and get the most use, although I have bags of all sizes in my collection. Like Thistle mentioned, when we go on family trips with the three kids, I like to have room to carry water bottles and snacks and souveniers. For evenings out, I prefer a clutch; for summer fairs I prefer a smaller bag that I can carry cross-body (although in general I despise cross-body styles). But for everyday, a medium bag works best for me.

Sometimes I just fall head over heels for a bag, regardless of whether it is the size I normally carry or not. In that case, I generally buy it and figure out how to carry it later.

I like a midsize bag. Too small and I cannot fit everything in it (my sunglasses case is a little large) but too big and it hurts my shoulder.
